What is 'rain'

The stuff that causes flooding chaos from time to time in Jeddah?

You know ... when [censored] flows in the streets (especially when the Storm Drains have been blocked with garbage)!

I remember a drain cover in Riyadh being blasted 4-6 feet in the air. That was some seriously heavy-metal!

The torrent of water that followed was at least 2-3 feet high for several hours.

Jeddah is now a massive construction site as the new drainage system is being put in place, it has not rained here for 2 years (proper rain) had the occasional shower but nothing heavy or sustained. Current temperature is hovering around the 40C mark(slightly warm)

Does the place still ... er, stink?

What was it called ... the "Lagoon"? Hopefully all that has gone now. But I - literally - wouldn't hold my breath!

Very humid at times, of course (like Yanbu).

My own favourite part of the Kingdom (and I managed to get more or less everywhere - except Tabuk) was, of course, the Asir Region. I was lucky enough to work down there twice. Not for long in either case, unfortunately.

You guys know the score:- you go out there and bust a gut for them for a year or so, and once they feel (usually in error) that they can do without you, they kick you into touch.
