Pay scales effective from 1st April 2005 for AfC staff can be found in Annexe C Table 12 of the NHS terms & Conditions of Service Handbook.

A4C payscales makes interesting reading! I see that as usual not much is being given away, if you look at current salaries the rise equates to approx 3.2% please correct me if wrong maths never were my strong point

I wouldn't count on it.

One of my colleagues has spoken to our finance dept. who have said that they will not have time to implement the new pay as they are snowed under with AfC!

Still, there is always the back pay to look forward to when you retire!

If we can afford to retire!!!
Has anyone heard about the day of action that the unions are organising to protest about the new pension arrangements?
Or is it just happening in local authority establishments? The good old NHS just getting walked over again.

The proposed days of action only involves public sector workers such as civil servants etc. as well as teaching assistants. However, this has now been called off as John Prescott has agreed to discuss further with the unions the proposal for the retirement age being raised to 65 and implemented by 2008 at latest.
This is seperate to the NHS proposals where the retirement age of 65 is proposed being intoduced by 2013. However, any agreement that Mr Prescott reaches with the public sector workers could have an effect on the NHS proposals.

Excuse me for being cynical, but does anyone else think that Tony Blair is simply trying to keep everyone quiet until after the general election. laugh

I mean, it wouldn't look too good for Labour if their own employees were taking part in demonstrations and protests in the weeks before the election. laugh

I believe it will be business as usual once they're back in for another 4 years. mad

Personally, I think that the Unions were stronger when Labour weren't in power - they now seem totally inoperative, just trying to please this current government.

With regard to the proposed changes to the pension:

I can understand the reasoning behind changing the retirement age from 60 to 65, although I don't agree that people will be living THAT much longer when I reach retirement age.

However, could someone explain to me how basing my pension on my average career earnings as apposed to final salary pension would give me the same pension (if not better)?
