Has anyone moved over to the new A4C on call arrangements? We are all still on our existing Whitley Council rates and feel we should move over, any feedback would be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Trevor

You need to look at what you cover On CALL and
how many of you are there are doing it.If there
are only a few of you,it may be worth while to
change. At QMC we have not changed as for us
Whitley is better. We have just had 2.5% on the
stndby allowances - HOORAY.

Our On Call is completed at 1:3 so AFC is the better option.

Our ON CALL is 1:6 at present and covering
Blood Gas analysers as well as everything else
ensures we get called out at all hours. So for
us the current arrangements are better.
Still by early 2007 we should get a vote on
what final arrangements are agreed - maybe.

Does that take account of annual leave cover etc. ?
If it does then you may find that you are 1:4 as far as afc is concerned, as has been found locally where 4 people cover the on call but because of sickness, A/L etc. they calculated they were working 1 in 3 BUT afc includes this in its calculations according to HR so its 1 in 4

Thanks for your replies. At present most on-call techs here are near the top of band 6 and do a 1 in 6 on-call rota. I believe that under A4C that this would be paid at 4.5% of your salary. Now at the top of band 6 with a salary of approx 31K pa. this equates to £1400 pa. Using Whitley rates the equivalent yearly amount is approx. £730. Dont forget that when you are called out you will be paid at the new A4C hourly rates which now only include time & a half and not double time!

Am I correct in assuming all this or have I missed some important information?

If you are still on whitley at present you will
still get double time on sunday and min of 2hrs.
per call.A lot will depend on the No. of calls you get per week.
It's the reason we are staying on Whitley rates
for now.

Hi Paul,
Yes, it is indeed payed at 1:3, but due to leave etc. we actually do more than 1:3 as there are only 3 tech's on the rota.

Loc: Temporarily in "The Smoke" but...
Pete,
I assume you all have leave etc, so doesn't that ballance it out to exactly 1 in 3? Unless someone has more study or sick leave that the other two.

Hi Robert,
Leave is dependant upon length of service, so varies in our case between 27 to 33 days, there is therefore a small variation.
