Snowler

We obviously have some very serious minded people in our profession!

Aren't we touchy this morning eek
Snowler, the sexism I was referring to is can you ask a male tech to wear a tie and a female tech doesn't have to. In our PC world is this equality.

Yes it is fun, and good for a laugh, sorry if I offended, as readers of my previous posts will testify, I take very few things seriously.

Huw I never said you enforced the tie rule, I posed it as a question.
I go on wards in my collar and tie and am surrounded by other professionals, as well as others, in various states of trendy clothes.
The new breed of junior Dr's are the worst.

Surely you must see the same?

If you want to wear the same stuff all the time, consider this...

Things you didn't want to know about the London Underground
Subject: The London Underground

If you are a regular traveller on the London Underground, here are some
facts which you are going to wish you hadn't read.

During Autumn of 2000, a team of scientists at the Department of
Forensics at University College London removed a row of passenger seats
from a Central Line tube carriage for analysis into cleanliness. Despite
London Underground's claim that the interior of their trains are cleaned
on a regular basis, the scientists made some alarming discoveries. The
analysis was broken down. This is what was found on the surface of the
seats: 4 types of hair sample (human, mouse, rat, dog) 7 types of
insect (mostly fleas, mostly alive) vomit originating from at least 9
separate people human urine originating from at least 4 separate people
human excrement rodent excrement human semen

When the seats were taken apart, they found:
the remains of 6 mice
the remains of 2 large rats
1 previously unheard of fungus

It is estimated that by holding one of the armrests, you are
transferring, to your body, the natural oils and sweat from as many as
400 different people.

It is estimated that it is generally healthier to smoke five cigarettes
a day than to travel for one hour a day on the London Underground.

It is far more hygienic to wipe your hand on the inside of a recently
flushed toilet bowl before eating, than to wipe your hand on a London
Underground seat before eating.

It is estimated that, within London, more work sick-days are taken
because of bugs picked up whilst travelling on the London Underground
than for any other reason (including alcohol).

.....and you reckon that looking 'corporate' is more important than hygiene?

Hey, Mr. Exitwound, you’re dead right about the navy blue combats – but wrong about the polo shirt – you must have spotted me on the job, then! Damn spies are everywhere these days. Which footwear do you go for, I wonder? smile

Reiker anti-stress loafers that are guaranteed not to split across the sole!

..but my favourites have to be my US Vietnam jungle boots.

Our domestics and porters wear blue and white polo shirts respectively... ain't doin' it, Dude, noway, nohow!

Much as I imagined then, Matey. I know it’s a jungle out there, but how do the boots go down on the wards, I wonder? But take my tip – sometimes it’s beneficial to be mistaken for domestic staff or porters; they get less grief than we do! Stay cool Man, chill-out to the max and all that good old stuff. And remember above all else – Long Live Low-Life! smile

There is nothing wrong with wearing novelty ties. If they bring a little humour into one persons life once a day whilst going round the various departments in the hospital then it is well worth it. Since starting work for the trust I always wear a novelty tie to work, except when it gets too hot, then the damn thing comes off and stays off.

Boots are fine here, we aren't so bothered as to how a person looks as long as they appear clean and can walk the walk.. Trust me I'm cool, I've even been known to remove my PASGT swat helmet from time to time! shades

Just to get away from boots, combats and see through skirt for a second.... does anyone have a favourite tie they wear to work, or do you just pick one depending upon your mood when you get up in the morning??

does anyone have a person in their dept. who wears brain blindingly bright tie and shirt combo's??

It would be nice if we could have sun glasses as part of our "uniform" on such occasions :-D

Too knot or not too knot.. that is the question!!
