With cancerUK.net IPEM is undertaking a national census of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering staff. This follows on from the successful Radiotherapy Physics census that was undertaken in June.

The census date will be 27th November 2006

We have written to all the Heads of Department in the UK known to IPEM. This will not cover all Trusts. If you are a Head of Department in, for example, an Estates based EMBE department or Rehabilitation Engineers working in a mobility service. We want to capture your workforce numbers as well. Take part by registering at the census web-site: http://www.canceruk.net/physicists.htm. You will then be sent full instructions on how to take part.

If you are not a Head of Department – check with them to make sure that they are taking part in the census.

Please coordinate responses from your organisation so that we do not get duplicate information.

This information is vital to provide evidence to the Department of Health for workforce planning and the commissioning of training for Clinical Technologists and Clinical Scientists. It will provide the first complete national picture of the workforce – so please register and take part.

Hello,

Will IPEM be sharing this information at all Mr Pearson?

Incidentally the link you gave doesn't appear to work:

Well there's apparently a workforce census on the way, to gather evidence for workforce planning and the commissioning of training for the medical physics and clinical engineering workforce, according to the latest VRCT circular I've just received.

http://www.canceruk.net/medphys.htm

If EBMEs want to be included then I guess their heads of department should register on this site as the circular suggests. The circular also suggests that employers be made aware that it is incumbent on them to provide proper funding and resource the education and training of new starters after 1 Jan 2007.

Bearing in mind that new-starters after 01/01/07 will not have access to any grandparenting provision thus not be eligible to join any register until they meet the primary criterion of the VRCT which is an approved vocational degree programme, or, an approved training scheme. I assume that means approved by VRCT/IPEM.

I wonder how many Estates based teams will take you up on your offer to input to the IPEM survey ?

The link on the website is now working. The summary results of the survey will be shared with anyone or any organisation that is interested. The information on individuals will be confidential.

I do hope that Estates based EBME departments will take up the survey. We need a picture of the whole workforce that the DH cannot provide with their systems.

Au contraire Derek. Your link works but your database, as of 2 minutes ago, refused my input \:\(

Derek
On investigating further, I note that your database form does not automatically offer sites for any Scottish or NI trust. Whereas it does for nearly all the others. Since you cannot enter sites manually Catch 22 rules, you cannot save your info to your database.
Tell it like it is. This is NOT a UK wide survey but is restricted to England and Wales. So what is the point?

Hoi Mr Papa Doc.... Surely you are not department in your own right but merely a branch office of this department and therefore you will be included when we make our return ;\) so keep your wig on mate. Surely by now you know that country wide doesn't include us but equally now you must be certain what to do with your vote come the election next May. \:D \:D

here is the right link
http://www.canceruk.net/physicists.htm

because the old link has a dot behind the link, which make the address wrong.
