Hello Everyone,

Here in our hospital (Sharjah, UAE) we have ventilator , Make : Siemens , Model : servo i, which is having the following problem

1.) The Ventilator is ‘Universal’ but the label specifies it as ‘Adult’.

2.) The S.No shown on the display in the ‘status’ mode is different from the specified label on the machine moreover the machine with Serial No. shown on the screen is already available with us. (ie 2 ventilators with same serial nos)

Now in this condition is it recommended to use the ventilator?

Kindly advice.

Thank you

Siemens servo i is a neonatal ventilator.you should check the performa.it is really strange.it can be possible by programming the ic program on the mainboard.you should contact with the company.

The servo-i is an adult ventilator with neonatal as an option. So depending on what you paid for you might have a "universal" ventilator or just an adult one.
It is just a matter of turning the software on after having paid for it.
I wonder is someone has been trying to fiddle with the software and make an adult machine in to a universal one without paying for it. Hence the two serial numbers the same.
Just an idea.
Check what was actually ordered, if the neonatal option was specified you will have to get the agent to turn it on.

Sounds like someone has been swapping software around, shiju. That is, trying to "pull a fast one". Why not take it up with the people who supplied the ventilators(s) (...and let us all know how you got on)? smile

Hi,

Geoff, I dont think anyone would have taken that risk with a ventilator when it specifies in the manual that the difference in the serial no is a discrepancy.(thats just my assumption as i am new to this particular hospital)

The software version was shown as V.00. This was informed to the supplier during the preventive maintenance period and then was upgraded to V 3.1 .

But Strangely with software V.00 it was again 'UniversaL'.

Now I am in touch with the Local Dealers but as usual they are waiting for the response from the principals, and its past 2 months now, 'ventilator still waiting for its turn'

Hi shiju
Just checking that the serial number you are refering to is on the Patient Unit near the gas and mains inlets and not the one on the back of the User Interface?

Hi Geoff

By the serial No , iam refering to the one near the mains power inlet /gas inlet and not at the rear of user interface.

and today i received a call from the authorised dealer saying that "there is no problem in using the machine with the patient".

and that they will get back to me soon with a software.

Hello Every one

We have received the reply from Siemens Ventilator Dealer.

They have informed us that the ventilator can be used with out any problem until the 'main back plain' (PC1770 with P/N: 64 67 562)is replaced.

Thanks to all

Shiju,

Just to be sure I suggest you call Damer (The servo specialist in Dubai). His contact is +971506234735 or contact Rupak Banerjee; Rupak.Banerjee@siemens.ae, the other service engineer for servo. Both can give you correct advice. I would like you to be aware of one recurring problem with the expiratory cassette which is when its sent to the CSSD for autoclaving, be sure that it follows the exact recommendations by the manufacturer or else the flow sensors inside get damaged. Siemens may replace them during the warranty period, but after that its a costly replacement for the complete assembly.

I agree with RoJo, usually Siemens supply a Universal version here in the UAE, unless other applications (say neonatal, pressure support, volume support etc) are asked for at the time of purchase.

Hi Hussein,

I had spoke to MPC Guys, whom you must be knowing , Ahmad Zidane/M.Shadi. They have sent the confirmation from the Principals regarding this issue.

Definitely special care is taken while autoclaving the expiratory cassette as per the instruction manual.

By the by which hospital you are working with in abudhabi?
