1999 Rover 200iS 1.8 K series engine.

Any one know the cooling system capacity for this specific model?
Also Tyre pressures (185/65/15)?
Oh also i have been told it has VVC / VVT giving it 145BHP is this true?
Thanks

Hi Topper
The K series 1.8 engine in the 200iS produced 118bhp. The VVC engine with 145 bhp was only put in the 200 Vi & BRM.

And your tyre pressures should be 30psi front & rear

And lastly, the coolant capacity is approx. 5 litres but you'll never collect that amount if you drain the system.

For your tyre pressure look on the driver side door or pillar. Should be there with pressures weights and speeds.

bhp and PS are essentially the same, but nowadays it is normal to measure the engine/car power output in KW.
The Escort Si was only rated to 90bhp.

Just to be correct 1 bhp is in fact 1.1 PS.
Manufacturers were reluctant to use bhp as soon as PS became well known as obviously it gave an impression of greater power!

When it comes to choosing a new car (something that I've never actually done, of course) you probably can't go far wrong by taking a look at the Caravan Club's Towcar of the Year. For 2008 they've gone for the Ford Mondeo Titanium X estate. 140 BHP 2.5 litre diesel on the road for £ 25,252 (...now you know why).

Myself, I think I would have gone for the Škoda Octavia Scout TDI. Still 140 BHP, with a 2.0 litre diesel engine, but with all-wheel-drive. And "only" £ 20,000!

Interesting to note that 34 out of the 36 entries were diesel powered. But we are talking about lugging caravans around Devon and Cornwall, after all. And, of course, with towcars you first have to consider the weight of your caravan (another area where "less is more", in my opinion). Perhaps it's about time we saw a thread about camper-vans and/or caravans? Many of you campsite enthusiasts, I wonder? smile

Lastly, on the subject of Pferdestärke ("horse-strength") etc., check-out this link. Or (if you're in a hurry) multiply PS by 0.9864 to get BHP, or multiply BHP by 1.0139 to get back to PS. That's UK BHP, of course (not US). It seems that, when it comes to engines, 1 PS = 75 kp·m/s = about 0.7355 kW. Here's a nice Christmas present for you all to play with!

Is the fact your "rover feels faster than your escort" because ford engines used to be "pants"? Wasnt that series of engine in the rover from Honda?

I thought torque was the more important factor regards towing/pulling power?? Or is that "old skool" as well??

Diesel engines generally produce more torque than petrol.

My old folks have had camper vans for some years now, from the old converted transporter to a fancy all singing and dancing fiat based thingy!
