Hello Guys/Girls,

Was just doing a quick survey to see if anyone is / has had the same recurrent problem I seem to be having with Graseby 500 volumetric pumps, we have a couple of hundred of these and the rear case seem to be getting damaged around the equipotential point and the mains inlet, does anyone else suffer this damage?

Cheers

You mean damage like this?:

At a guess I would say about 20% of our pumps have similar damage (although maybe not quite as severe as this one) the piece is actually quite secure and would have to be forced to snap off completely - I've seen them cracked but none with the piece missing as far as I can remember.
All our pumps are heading towards ten years old and are due to be retired soon anyway (hopefully! smilewink ).

We get that all the time here! I believe it's caused by hitting the pole when the user mounts the pump onto the pole.

Best thing to do is to file smooth the broken edges - too much hassle replacing the rear case! frown

One of those annoying lack of attention to detail at the design stage.

Seen this lots of times - It's caused by tightening the pole clamp when the pump is too low on the stand. The case is crushed against the stand height adjustment. Same problem often also causes damage to the earthing stud.

Yep. This is a big problem at our hospital. Partly due to poor quality materials/manufacture and also to user training.

This doesnt happen with the old style cases no where near as much as the new style cases. We have brought this up with Smiths and asked then if they can do anything about it, strengthen the moulding in that area but they said they couldnt do anything about it and it is users incorrectly fitting the device to the equipment stand where the two parts join.

See your device trainer and get them to educate the staff more about fixing to equipment stand correctly.
