The Braun tympanic thermometers tend to be expensive on consumables compared to the genius. The genius is easier to calibrate.

We have a couple of Braun Thermoscans and many more Genius' (Geniei?)I have spoken to Actamed who we purchased them from and unless we purchased lots of them we would have to buy test kit to check them. You still can't recalibrate them anyway-even with the test kit. Compare them to the Genius -yep its more expensive (and you still have to buy a tester) but you can have it tested and recalibrated same day - ask your users what they would prefer!

We have about 40 each of the genius and Pro3000. We had 40 Pro1's, quite simply the Genius was better, then the nice man swapped out all the Pro1 for Pro3000 and they seem about the same as the Genius. The Genius calibrator is **much** better than the Braun, we had quite a time getting a Braun one at all, then when it came it had a French plug, but now we have one with a trusty 13A on it. Since Braun give us the tymps, and the calibrator, it makes you wonder what they get out of it, perhaps there's a lot to be made on the consumeables. Yes I think that must be it! God knows what the Genius calibrator costs them, I know it cost us nothing. Still our nurses try to keep costs down by not using the tips. Why do tymps always come in with the complaint of reading low? Try telling a nurse that the window has got a great lump of wax on it!

We use the Alaris tympanic and have quite a few by now ! Alaris gave us the calibrator and it's quick and easy. A porter brings one over, he waits while we calibrate it and takes it back. It's surprising how many have wax on the lense - but the wards assure us that they never, NEVER use it without a cover ! !

We have limited exzperience of the Braun, mainly because non of them have ever worked for more than a couple of days !
