We have standardised defibs pretty well over the years, trying to have 2 or 3 models only. We used to buy LifePak 9 then about 4 years ago we got a number of HP Codemasters. In view of the number of SN's coming out of MDA I don't feel like buying HP at the mo. Can anyone positively recommend anything or must I buy more LP9's which have been great but are a bit long in the tooth now (and somewhat expensive).

We have many Physiocontrol LP9's and have just ordered 6 more. They are not the worlds most modern but they do the job well and are reliable...... However we had a visit from the nice chap from Cardiac services showing us the new HP (sorry Agilant) product. Have a look at the Heartstream if you want to go down this road.

We standardised on the HP Codemaster about three years ago and have experienced all the problems except the "cycle power" message. We have discovered that although Agilent notified us of the power supply problems and we asked them to update the units we had at the time, they will only do the mod on the units which give trouble, so we have had several visits from the engineer, working his way round the machines as they fail !

Our old Life Pack 9's are still soldiering on and we never have a problem with them. The Zoll units look very good but I think people have had problems with the battery packs.

We also have lots of LP9's and have had very few problems with them. They are easy to see, use, and maintain. Still have some old CR 272's as well - anyone else still got any?

Hello Paul
Nice to see you at the conference.
I can't believe you still have 272's. I took my kids to the Science Museum last year and they had one there too!

Can anyone recommend an automatic defib that could be used in a GP practice? Preferably one that you've been using for a while.

Laerdal make one which is very basic and very easy to use. I can't remember the name of it (we never see them in the workshop) but Laerdal will know !

John, how about the Agilent/Heartstream Forerunner AED. We've got several, no major problems. Good for infrequent use such as surgeries. Users can check & change the (Li) batteries and it "requires no calibration or verification of energy delivered"..!

Things have moved on a bit here, I am now looking at the LP12, any comments anyone?

Someone asked about AED's for a GP, well we have no problems with our LP500's.
