Hi Chaps
Going back to the early days of this posting I thought you might be interested in an update of where we are at Colchester with this issue.
As you will see above(Page 1)we've been undertaking quarterly Medical Gas Wastage Audits since early 2007. Along with the buy-in of staff from the top to the bottom and @130 medical gas training sessions pa we have substantially reduced our potential pipeline oxygen wastage along with reducing the number (& sizes) of cylinders on wards/depts & thereby reducing our overall stockholding helping reduce cost & associated risks.
Colchester Hospital (@650 beds) - Oxygen Wastage
January 2007 - 146,880 litres per day equivalent to 319 CD cylinders per day @ £6000
to
March 2009 - 18,720 litres per day equivalent to 41 CD cylinders per day @ £767 pa.
I'm certain there are other hospitals out there with similar wastage problems to the one we had, but has anyone done any work on addressing it?
