Anyone know of a good ventilator suitable for domicilliary use. Must be for long term use and have low maintenance.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but a company called ResMed UK Ltd have a VPAP2 unit which is described as ;-
"....intended to augment the ventilation of patients who have restrictive or obstructive respiratory disorders and require non-continuous ventilatory support."
The section in the manual headed "Servicing" states "The flow generator is designed to give you years of trouble free operation. It will not require regular servicing provided that you clean and maintain it according to the instructions in this (user) manual."

If you want a proper ventilator for full-time use, we have a unit which has been in use for many years in a patients home and was completely re-built and refurbished a few years ago. The patient concerned has now died and the anaesthetists don't want to use the vent in the hospital, so it's looking for a new home.

Have you tried the respiratory unit at St Thomas' Hospital, London. They offer a home service for patients. Sorry I do not have telephone numbers or contacts.

The VPAP is similar to the NIPPY made by Airmed(AKA Friday Medical)as it is not designed for use 24hrs. 7days a week which is required for this case. I may try St.Thomas's as suggested by Dieter to see what they are useing

We have until recently a Breas PV 501 out in the community which proved to be reletively easy to look after. They wre supplied by Deva Medical although I believe they are now available Breas direct. If you need any further infoI have service manuals an approx running costs

What do you mean by 'vent'? Is it a nasal or CMV? If the latter then P.B. do the LP10. We have one in use on a long term patient, which is exactly what it is intended for.

I've just received some information from a company called Ferno (UK) Ltd. in Cleckheaton (honestly!), West Yorkshire, Tel.01274 851999, which has four ventilators from Mediline - the Pulse 100, 200, 300 & 400, They look as though they are primarily for ambulance / emergency team use, but could be suitable for your application.

I am currently the technician for home based ventilated patients from Southport's Spinal Injury Unit. We are currently using Nellcor Puritan Bennett 2801/LP10's, Breas 501/401's, Nippy 2 and PLV100/1/2. All of these need 6 monthly services. If you need further info please contact me.

We have 6 PB 2801's, 4 in patients homes, we have endless problems with the piston seals. They have packed a great deal in a small space which makes them hard to service unless you do it on a regular basis.
We hope to try the newer LP 10 sometime.
Also the Breas which shows promise but did not have a back up internal bettery when we last looked at it. An important safety issue.
You may be getting one of our home patients in the next year or so (remember my phone call), I will make sure they have the very best machines money can buy before you take over !
