Thank you all for your contributions and entertaining distractions, this is for a transport incubator so in the end we decided to go for a TEK 2000 emergency suction from Therapy equipment. It works from an O2 cylinder and is small and inexpensive and has no batteries or brushes for that matter.

Where's the fun in that?

Most of the transport incubator lash-ups ... er, set-ups that I have seen recently appear to favour the little DeVilbiss suction unit.

This is a bit of a lash up, trying to save money.

Saving money has its place. But sometimes it's more prudent to spend some!
