I think there are only two manufacturers who make the 300w Xenon lamps and PerkinElmer is one of the companies. I have led to believe that Keymed use PerkinElmer lamps.

I have been talking utter rubbish, as per usual. have just replaced an olympus MD-631 bulb from a CLV U40 (I think) and its an USHIO. Markings say its a UXR-300LY. It is a 5 hole varient. I replaced it with a PE and works fine. Only difference is the Ushio is about 1 or 2mm longer so it may make a little diffence when a light guide is fitted as to how much light powere is lost in this slack coupling.

Gaz, any complaints about not using OEM lamps?

Keymed "service" our equipment apart from bulb replacement and they moaned a little at first but now just tell us when they are due for repalcement. I've been fitting the PE bulbs for years and they run for 1000's of hours without any problem at all. We scrapped an old olympus light source that uses the same frame to mount the bulb so we have a quick swap available in case of problems. As per normal, a consultant moaning about a dark picture isn't the bulb, its the light leads!!

Just bought 2 from MGC @ £275 each. There are probably cheaper out there but we have never had a problem with their service and they always support the Biomed exhibitions so I try to do my bit in return

As far as i know the Perkin Elmer lamps are made in Singapore and shipped worldwide.
