Not everyone has the makings of a model employee. Many really useful people, especially creative types, are often not good "team players". OK, there’s "no I in team", but there is an M and an E in there someone!

I like to say that the world is split into two types of people. There are the sheep (ie, the great majority), and then there are the shepherds (actually, there is a third category, the wolves, but we won’t go into that now).

My point is that some of the best people are not really employable in the normal sense. It depends what you’re looking for, talent or drones. The trouble with being talented, of course, is you then become a threat to those who are less so (and often sitting farther up the food chain). All this adds up to "safe" people being hired. Mediocrity, in other words. I’ve seen it time and time again.

Needless to say, I'm unemployable myself! Ha, ha.

I only wish there had been something like this (ie, the forum, the internet etc.) back in the days when I was starting out.

Actually Mate, I was never greatly impressed by the "support" we got from that quarter. It all went down hill (Shooter's Hill?) once they stopped producing "Technical Folders", in my opinion. Anyone else remember those?

Odd to recall, also, that medical and dental equipment was looked after by "Weapons Branch" (must be a moral to that story somewhere).

Ohms law - 6.28*ten to the eighteen elctrons a second flowing through a one ohm reistor will drop one volt across the reistor.

Amazing how many people stumble at that simple answer....

Yes, Ohm's Law. As I've said many times before, when it comes to electronics, you can scrape by if that is all you know (look at me, for example)!

One question I always ask--

"Give me an example of an incident in which you've made a terrible mistake and tell me how you rectified it, how you felt and the final outcome ?"

Too many people come to interviews fired up to give positive bull shine, this question brings them down to earth with a bang. You will get a very varied reaction from body language and everything you should be looking for in an interview -- if they're honest it works!

Still as Geoff will probably confirm I always was a bit of a B*****D!
