Thank you everybody. It proves that the pole clamnp breakages are common.

Has anybody else brought this issue to the attention of B.Braun? I am interested to know what replies you have had.

We had the space volumetric introduced in Nov 07 and it has been a nightmare!
We have seen most of the problems highlighted so far in the thread, pole clamp breakages, power supply issues and most common is the P2 connector breaking. The other problem that we see is the safety clamp breaking as well, not to mention four software upgrades. When each of these issues were raised we also got the 'we haven't seen that in any other hospital'

Thanks for checking, Dave Old Mate ... but what did we expect? Crap ... er, I mean poor design will surely produce similar results wherever the item is put to use in our crazy, joined-up world! frown

Geoff

You are interested to find out what has been done about this.

Here in NHS Lothian, we introduced the pumps onto two sites. first was my site and my gut feeling at the time was these will be hastle. Not because of quality but because of the amount of individual parts needed for one infusion (pump/charger/bracket). Staff guaranteed to lose at least one part.

Unfortunately, this was not the problem, quality was the major factor and it took some hard persevering to get Braun to own up to poor manufacturing problems ie - faulty power supplies/brackets/earth pins.

I was not letting this pass until all power supplies / 3 pin sockets etc were totally changed over in this hospital.

What gets my back up about Braun, was the fact they never informed our sister site of these problems and were quite happy for them to purchase new brackets etc.

In my opinion, if all these problems were opened up, Braun would not sell another pump in the UK.

All braun owners, be prepared, technical services are not much better.

Thanks for that Alan.

It sounds like yet another case where the manufacturer would have been well advised to "come clean" about the problems as soon as they became apparent. All they have to do is communicate ... is that too much to ask? Well yes, apparently it is.

That, and listen to their customers, that is (and I bet that's something they would swear they already do, in spadefuls)!

Why do we (in healthcare) suffer so much of this nonsense? Can you imagine the likes of BMW, Sony, Microsoft even, hoping to get away with ... well, let's just call it "misleading" their customers in such fashion? frown

I won't go further by suggesting "the answer" here ... I'm sure everyone can work it out for themselves.

Short memories, eh? Anyone remember a pump called the Colleague ... different manufacturer, but a similar sorry saga.
