During the last six months or so I have been gently pestered (that is, in the nicest possible way) by a guy out in Lagos with a view to going out there to bring "organisation and structure" to his service team. Imagine lots of x-ray, and medical imaging equipment, scattered around the country ... installations and tech support, plus some equipping of new hospitals with general medical kit, and stuff like that. An interesting proposition, then.

My take on this one is that it would be an interesting, diverse, but challenging position that would suit an experienced bloke with an inclination for the expat lifestyle. And (frankly) someone younger than myself (with a bit more energy and stamina, that is).

Notwithstanding the above, I can admit to having been somewhat tempted myself, but have a bit too much in hand at the moment to see my way clear to uproot and travel. Firstly my software project, which I really need to bring to completion, plus a couple of other things I have on the go these days. Another reason that I "dipped the shoulder" on this one (as it were), was that this is clearly a "leadership" position, and (despite the remuneration that such jobs command) I took a decision many years ago now to take responsibility for my own work only (and find that in itself a tough enough demand these days)!

The other downside (as far as I am concerned) is I see this as a "corporate" position (and I doubt that many who know me would disagree that I am not really a "corporate guy")! But, for the "right guy" (that is, one willing to meet the requirements of corporate demands), this would be a great opportunity to crack on and make a difference in ways not really possible in places like the UK.

Jobs like this are few and far between these days. The requirement is definitely there, and the opening is "immediate" (ASAP, whatever). There is also funding (which is always nice). Needless to say, the position requires residence "out there", and would really suit (as I say) a "younger man", probably single, and with a taste for adventure ... and (perhaps) someone looking to break away from the constraints of working life (if not, in fact, life in general) in places like the UK!

If anyone fancies having a go at something like this (and I hope I've "sold" it in a fair and balanced way), get in touch and I shall be happy to pass on contact details. smile
