Me too, Bill, for sure. smile

But regarding such matters as the "new industries", such as so-called "diversity", "climate change" ("regime change") ... and all the rest (and there are many) ... well, please don't get me started! frown

In the seventies, according to the scientists we were heading into an ICE AGE, now we have global warming, give them another couple of years and maybe we will be heading back to the ice age.

Come now, Neil. It's not "Global Warming" this week, is it? It's "Climate Change"! You really must try harder to keep up!

As I say, it's just another "industry". Something for (soon to be) ex-NHS managers to have a go at, perhaps? frown

P'ssst:- anybody interested in some cheap Carbon Credits?

Do you think that the current situation with all the scientists rabidly attacking anybody that is not convinced by the current “climate change” thinking funny?

I was under the impression that scientists tried to prove their ideas by putting a thesis or model of a situation out. Other scientist etc can then try to prove/disprove this model.

Newton did this with his law of gravity only to have it disproved at a later stage as our understanding advanced.

As for Gordon Brown telling me anything to do with climate change or finance and how he is going to the save the world, well sorry but if he says black I say white (that was the polite version).

No, funny is not the word. The one I would use is [censored]!

Anyone with half a brain can see that it's yet another attempt to keep the plebs worried (nay, anxious), feeling guilty, dependent upon Nanny, and compliant when it comes to coughing up yet more taxes. Do you feel guilty? I certainly don't.

But these things should not be taken too seriously. Or else we will end up like those anal retentive [censored] themselves! smile

Here's a thought:- if the Maldives are soon to disappear beneath the waves ... how come they are building a new airport there? And ... who's paying for it? 'Nuff said, methinks.

And (whilst I'm on), on a related tack. How come the UK (bankrupt) is still sending "overseas aid" to a country that has both nuclear weapons ... and a space programme? Go figure!

But what's this about Newton? Do apples just float about these days, then, rather than bounce off your head? smile

If the earth was a perfect globe, and the trajectory around the sun was perfect, then there would be no changes, but it ain't

Apparently Newton's law of gravity doesn't account for the way planets and stars effect each other.

So it is a bit like the explanation of how atoms are made up that is given to children; atoms do not really look like miniature solar systems, reality is a bit to complicated so a simpler model that is easily understood is given.

If this is not really how atoms look but you tell children that it is, then you are lying to children according to Terry Pratchett.

There are lots of examples of this such as how is a rainbow produced or the explanation of how a PN junction works.

So we should be alright as long as we don't wander too far beyond the Van Allen belt, then?

Surely it's well known that when teaching (instructing, lecturing ... whatever) you need to pitch your material at the level of the class.

In other words, it's not much use teaching "rocket science" to five year olds, is it?

First approximations are probably good enough for anything the likes of us are likely to encounter! After all, aren't we practical, hands-on (down to earth) types who fix things with screwdrivers and the like? Anything beyond that is best left to the boffins I reckon.

I remember once giving a talk on "How X-Rays Are Produced" to a bunch of squaddies. A complete waste of time for all concerned! smile
