So what does all this mean? Standardizing on all the power outlets and PMG outlets at all hospitals (government, private) and clinics throughout the Kingdom? Even those which use (what we could call) 110 volt systems?

Due to the amount of equipment both 110 & 220 currently in use, the building standard section have decided to keep both, but 110 will be UK (MK) type sockets, 220 will be German Scratch type, The medical gas will be English as well.
Standards to be published next year, remember this is part-time for me and other committee members. Visited one hospital using curtains to divide ICU patients, this has to change.

Polarised (and fused) for 110 ... but not for 220? Where's the sense in that? Why not keep the US style 110 volt outlets!

And why select the "Euro plug"? The worse of all options, in my (unbiased) opinion. How come the UK's BS-1363 socket isn't being used for 220 volts?

And (as I have said before), if "it was me" I would look closely at the American "Hospital Grade" idea.

That's good news about PMG outlets, though. After all, anything is better than this (mess)!

Curtains to divide patients? What's wrong with that? Not every hospital has funding from MODA you know!

If you have have standards they have to be across the board, curtains are not acceptable,you cannot control infection with curtains, sliding doors or close the unit, this is were I said there will be a lot of opposition.
Us biomeds when we met with the electrical engineers asked for only one supply either choose 110 or 220 but got out voted.
It is not just MODA, there are a lot of private hospitals who regard themselves as A class when in fact they are well below normal standards and they will fight as it will cost to put things right. Patient first, money second.

You control infections by washing hands and wearing face masks. See much of that sort of thing going on?

Air-borne, the ICU patient area should be a controlled confined area, the hospital we visited did not have an isolation room, if they cannot afford the building costs, you could down grade the area to a normal patient ward.

Geoff with reference to the electrical outlets, getting down to 2 is a major improvement on the current system. A lot of hospitals use the Euro-type all depended on the nationality of the contractor.

Isolation. Intensive care. Not necessarily the same thing.

Intensive care-Isolation is different, air-borne meningitis for example.
