Greetings,

Has anyone ever modified a Bio-Tek RF302 Electrosurgery Analyzer to test Hyfrecators ? If so is there a schematic diagram to use to do the modification. When I use my RF302 to test Hyfrecators I use the higher resistance load setting for the Hyfrecator but then I lose the my scale sensitivity (500 Ohms / 500W) and the max output of the Hyfrecator is only 35W. I know I've seen photos of what looks like a RF302 ESU analyzers with added input for Hyfrecators. Can anyone help. Please drop me an email at spectrum_dynamics@yahoo.com. or post a reply.

Thanks

Hello Randy
You can get more accurate Hyfrecator output readings with a Pearson current monitor and a True RMS meter. You already know the RF302 impedance (nominal 500 ohms), square the current measured through the "Doughnut" and this will provide the power.
I believe Pearson are located in Palo Alto CA, and the True RMS meter needs to have a suitable bandwidth.
I used to calibrate the RF302's and because of the hot wire thermocouple response and the quoted accuracy +/- 5% of scale, (worst case scenario at that range +/- 25 Watts error) you are not going to get accurate low power readings of 30 to 40 W on a 500 watts/ohms selected scale, no matter what modification's you do using that technology.

Regards
Sean
