What I would like to know is 'what is the worth' of an engineer who has 10 years or more experience in Bio Med equipment, who specializes in Neo Natal, and Anaesthesia, plus numerous other equipment, and has been company trained in all the medical equipment generally available.
What is this worth in monetry value/Banding to an EBME department either NHS or Private sector?

Unless you can get in with a large manufacturer, in the "private sector" you are only worth what you can "bring to the table" (as I've heard it described a million times).

In other words, what you can offer (and then, once in the door, continue to provide) to the company. You have to justify your existence, as it were ... and on a more-or-less continuous basis.

Ten years (or forty) doesn't make a lot of difference on the Dark Side. There's no Band 4/5/6 there either, I'm pleased to say. I doubt that you'll find many 37.5 hour weeks, as well.

You could expect something in the range of £ 25-32k I should imagine, but for that you would have to work damned hard, and probably spend half of your day driving if you're not lucky.

Best stick with the NHS, my friend. smile

Hi Skippy
I am the NNU Tech here, i have 9 years experience in NHS after 13 yrs Avionics RAF. I have transferred from ICU to NNU 8 months ago. I have always been a MTO3 / Band 6 and still am although i replaced a retiring B7 (cost saving).
Therefore i would hope you are a 6 at the very least.
