Hi,

I am looking for weekend work and would like to know if any of your departments would consider employing someone on such a basis? I have lots of experience in both the NHS and private sector.

Bad timing mate! We would ALL like a bit of overtime, unfortunately most NHS organisations have an overtime ban. Cutbacks etc.

Your best bet is to contact private firms rather then the public sector if your after weekend work..

When you say you are "looking for weekend work" are we to presume that you are actually seeking extra income ... or are you simply after an extra dose of the pure joy that can be found in fixing kit? think

@Hulk: folk from "private firms" do occasionally take a look at what's going here on the forum, you know. whistle

I'm looking for a weekend job as I am only available Friday, Saturday and Sunday as my partner (who is a nurse) works in London Mon-Thurs and I look after the children during this time.

We are in Lincolnshire and opportunities are very limited but I am prepared to travel.

Money is the motivating factor although I look forward to experiencing the pure joy of fixing kit again!

Here's a suggestion that I hope may change your life:- set up your own workshop!

In a garage, shed, spare room ... or whatever you can find. And then let it be known how you can be found by courier van drivers!

Good luck. smile

Thanks for the suggestion Geoff, it's appreciated.

Do you have experience of this - how likely are hospitals to send equipment for service/repair to a one man outfit? Also what type of equipment would you recommend to start as there would be a considerable outlay in terms of test equipment, insurance etc. I'm struggling to find a list of BME departments, do you happen to know where I can get one?

Cheers

Taking your questions briefly:-

1) Yes
2) Unlikely
3) Choose kit that you like working on
4) Depts

Notes:-

1) But not so much in recent years
2) But other potential customers are available (eg, vets, small repair companies, etc.)
3) It doesn't have to be medical equipment!
4) If it's out of date ... better let Huw know! whistle

At the end of the day (there's a meaningless phrase for you) you need to make up your own mind about all this stuff. Another bit of advice I could offer would be:- why not take this opportunity to ponder what it is you really want (or perhaps, need) to do ... and then follow your star! think
