Hi Guys,

I'm just starting my BSc(HONS) research. I've checked with my manager and he's comfortable with me researching the following areas. I am hoping to get general views and preconceptions of other people. At the end of any reply could people state Private or NHS. Thanks.

Question 1.

Over the next 3 years, will there be changes regarding the way in which NHS Clinical Engineering Departments operate?

Question 2.

Would it be advantageous to create a private business that shall maintain PCT medical equipment in time a time of recession?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi Segs,

Did you get your band 5 or is it dependant on finishing this course?
I think you should look at the Modernising Scientific Careers scheme. This will probably have the biggest effect on our departments over the coming years. One other change that may be a bit longer term is that more kit will be community based so we will probably need to be more mobile (back to how it was in 't good ole days).

Not sure about your area but most of our local PCT's have come into our trust so we are responsible for their kit now. Also there are quite a few Small- Medium companies already out there doing the simple stuff.

NHS (if you hadn't guessed)

Thanks for the reply.

And yes, I finally got my band 5 earlier this year :-)

I've noticed that that seem to be many small - medium sized companies out there (some better than others).

I've noticed over the past few years some of the smaller local GP's combing with other health centres, centralising much more of the work which could be seen as positive in terms of minimising travel time but also as a negative, presumably one company would cover all of the maintenance.
