Hi people. The rule Meddev2.4/1 #9, special rule says:
All devices emitting ionizing radiation and related monitors in medical procedure are in 2b class.

The therapeutic UV lamps produce ionizing radiation.

Is the UVC,UVB in class 2b and UVA in class 2a, or everithing is in 2a. I am a little bit dizzy...Thank you

As far as I'm aware UV is non-ionising radiation

As far as I know, UV radiation ionizes oxygen molecules and changes them to ozone molecules.

I agree with Jack. UVB is not ionising radiation. My understanding of this is that ionising radiation has a wavelength of less than 100nm. UVB is 280-320nm and therfore not coverd by regulations refering to inoising readiation. I'm an engineer - is there a physicist out there whoc can provide clarification.

I think, i´ve got it. UV-A and UV-B lamps have a thin layer of luminophor that absorbes UV-C. Therefore, luminophor coated lamps are not in 2b class. UV lamps with clear glass radiate UV-C and must not be used for a phototherapy, because UV-C is ionizing and what more, very dangerous. I should destroy the old sun lamps!
