Cheers Mate,

How about Colin Maloney? Colin was another ex-REME electromedical type, and was last heard of having his own biomed-type business based down Plymouth way.

Anyone?

Did Colin try and get into the dental business and then either join GE or Portsmouth EBME lot?? Was he a mate of Dave ? at Hannover.

This sound like a reunion, I'm also ex REME Med&Dent. Chris West, also ex Med&DEnt, is based in Derby as an XRay engineer.

Seems like there are a lot of ex-REME Med & Dent types around. What years did you guys train at S. E. E. Arbourfield? Ahh the delights of Wokingham! I was there back in 72! Only remember some blue jobs on the course though, along with some civvies. rolleyes

Great! Fantastic! How about someone setting up a reunion at Arborfield?

Colin Maloney was at BMH Iserlohn with Alan Jewkes and Stan Midwinter (...more name dropping) in the late 70's and early 80's. Also, I heard recently that Steve Lemon is in civvies at Ludgershall these days.

Yes, SEE also trained guys from MOD, RN and RAF.

Best Regards to all old "Med & Dent" sweats, specially those who have kept the faith and still soldier-on in the medical equipment line of work.

Can us ex blue jobs join in this reunion? (We could always drink more beer and first to get our wallets out) laugh :p
I know where a few of our lot are lurking,
i.e. Jim Mc Williams, Chris Birch, Baz Marie, Phil Young, George Carruthers, Stuart Norris. They can probably link in with a few others.

Interesting Thread of Conversation
How many blue jobs have passed through No1 Radio School on their travels, as opposed to the Med & Dental route ?
I have the dubious pleasure of having attended both establishments of Service learning, Aborfield & Locking (but through the Radar, Missile system route).
Many fond memories of sports afternoon skives in Bracknell and Weston-Super-Mare.
By way of Service clarification, REME Aborfied calls it a Parade Square, RAF Locking called it a Car Park. For amusement, leave a red ring binder marked Secret EMER on the back seat of your car and check how long it is before the Regimental Police contact you, (bit of in-joke for the Aborfield crowd).

Yes, tut tut, but I suppose he would still be allowed to attend a reunion - even if he has moved into clinical Governance. Chief Exec next??

Do I detect a hint of jealousy from certain quarters ?
Inter-Service rivalry and banter has a long and distinguished history.
Ex-Service personnel are rightly proud to have served in the Forces, the detractors usually use terminology without knowing the meaning or origin of the terms crab, brownjob or a matelot,(apologies to ex-crew members of the grey funnel line).
I dont mind being referred to as a crab,or crab-fat, or having served in Her Majesty's Royal Luftwaffe even, but the right to label me as such is reserved for other ex-service bods only (not civvies or wannabe's).

Greetings to all Ex-Service brethren, whatever your current role in the wonderful world of Medical Engineering.

Regards
Sean

Don't forget my good buddy from Hong Kong days, Tony Fenech (...at the Royal Gloucestershire). Let's hear from you, mate. I know that Bob Wilcockson is *still* at the King Fahad Medical Center in Riyadh. Peter Shephard is out in Qatar as far as I know. I've heard news recently about Bill Crombie.

So, where are all the rest of them, then? Might as well hear from the lot of you - especially those who have "kept the faith".

Are we starting a new thread about old British motor-bikes, then? There are many good web-sites out there guys ... for instance, try www.planetmotorcycles.com (they are physically located next door to the offices of Expat Network in Croydon, for those of us who know that place!).

Arborfield - SEE Mark 2, is now here at Kidderminster. As for ex med and dent techs. Steve lemmon, John Whalley, Terry Coates, Bill Straker, Dave Metcalf, Paul Edwards, Hugh Hind (not really a true med+dent but worth a mention), Solley Ollusha, Bob Bunnings, Ivan Salmons, Lofty Ricket's and many many more.....In fact would all of you ex med and dent techs like a copy of your exam results when you first passed through S.E.E now S.E.A.E? It makes good reading..

I've tracked down my old buddy Colin Maloney. Colin was (is) that rarest of breeds, an RAF technician who transferred to the army as an electromedical technician. His last post was as the senior tech. at BMH Iserlohn in Germany. All that was a long time ago, of course, but Colin has run his own medical, dental and veterinary equipment servicing business for the last 20 years. If anybody wishes to get in touch with Colin, a message to me will do the trick.

Some of the guys may remember Peter Shephard (another ex-REME type, I'm afraid). Pete doesn't "do EBME" these days, but has been very successful in related areas. Anyone wishing to contact "the Good Shephard" can drop a message via myself.

Hi All

Yes another ex REMEite now at North Devon. Went through SEE on Electro Med in late 60's. I remember Bill Straker? He played cricket I belive. Posted to BMH Iserlohn in late 60's early 70's then went civy to a German X Ray firm in South Germany. Now thinking of retirement. Any one know of John Lockey (also Iserlohn), does any one remeber Bill Wakely at SEE?

All the best to all ex Sevice guys (both Blue and Brown jobs) Our Electro Med couse was thw first combined service one and I remember the blue jubs asking where the dinning area was in the centurion tank when I showed them over it.

Hi John,

...so you must remember Wullie Anderson, then. Wullie was my mentor when I first started out in "electromed" (in Hong Kong, luckily enough). Wullie always said he would return to the pit at Dalkeith. Anybody know what has become of him?

Best Regards to all who wore the film-badge!

Wullie retired from Big REME and worked for SSVC in BAOR for a while, he was still there when I left in 1992.
I believe that he bought a council house in Dalkeith and was going to retire there, as for the pits they went long ago

Hi Frank (it's me again),

...interesting about Wullie. He was definately a "one-off". Interesting too about SSVC (Services Sound and Video Corporation, or something like that? The successors to the old AKC and SVC, anyway). I'd heard that they had taken over "med and dent" in BAOR. I heard too that Bill Straker, Wullie Anderson and others had a go at it. Was it a success? Are they still doing it? Anyone know the story? (there may be lessons to be learned!)

The idea behind the SSVC thing was to release Tech's to go and work for BIG REME ie tanks etc.
Bill Straker ran it and they had 1 or 2 guys in each hospital (Les Hart was at Rinteln)and a few covering each Div to do the outstations, Willie & Dave Metcalf.
I assume that with the drawdown in BAOR in all died as I know that Les & Dave are now working in Papworth / Addenbrooks

It is just me, or has there been a drying up of fresh posts from old buddies on the forum of late? What’s happened to the gang out in the Magic Kingdom, for instance (the Great Louis III, Nick Brown et al). Where have they all disappeared to? Why have they forsaken us, I wonder (surely they can’t have found a better forum)? Or perhaps the novelty has simply worn off. frown

I notice, too, from Huw’s nice new search page, that there are still many users registered, but yet still to make a post (…not to mention, of course, the legion of lurkers who just look, never make any contribution, and don’t even bother to register). Come on guys, don’t be shy, let’s hear your news! smile

Geoff,

I believe that many Hospitals had their security software upgraded and forums were 'not allowed'. I had to speak to the Director of IT at Harlow to get access to the EBME website from my office in the Hospital. Something about setting up of privelages. Unfortunately, a lot of our members have restricted access. They can see the main home page but when they try to access the forum they are not allowed. The only way around this is to have the permissions setting changed. frown

Well Matey, I would if you told us who you were (TG)! Still not worked out how to use the spell-checker button, then? My good buddy Big Tony is on-line as we “speak”. Terry was at 3M (in Nottingham?) the last I heard (about 15 years ago). The “Good Shephard” was shacked up out in Laos, the last I heard. But unlike you, it seems, I don’t owe anybody anything (quite the reverse, in fact)! smile

Funny, that, Grimmster. I used to know a guy called Tony Grimmett who I once rated as one of the best biomeds I ever worked with! He used to be into Land-Rovers, as I recall. But time marches on, I suppose.

You’re a bit out of date, Matey. The Medical City of the Middle East is now Riyadh, surely? The “Medical City” you’re (probably) referring to was much the same the last time I called in, but its sister at Kash’m Al’an has been developed over the years (to an extent that they’re now getting short of space … but there’s always more bits of desert around, I guess).

So, you’ve made the big time, then? Pension? (no, not for a few years yet). Hashing? (last one I did was in Oman, many years ago, but I still stagger about as much as possible). All the information you’ll ever need is available here. Just follow the links.

But, for the benefit of others on this forum, any news of the rest of the Gang? What ever happened, I wonder, to the Glasgow Clones? But don’t forget, Mate, that “ye shall sow as ye reap” (…or something like that)! PS - picked up your PS3 yet? smile

Tony is (of course) a regular on the forum ... as indeed (now) is Terry.

And, for those who may be interested, I met up with the "Good Shepherd" a few months ago. In Barnsley, of all places. Note that the photo shown below was not taken on that occasion, but elsewhere and (shall we say), more than a few years ago!

But here are a few more names for you, Neil:- Robin Brown (still active in the UK, as far as I am aware). Neil Moore (ditto). Huw Palmer ... I never came across Huw again since Yanbu in 1993 (but still recall the mysterious case of the broken finger)! smile

It was sat more upon a big bit of desert, really.

Sorry about the poor quality of the photo, but here is an exterior shot of that same "office"! If you look closely, you can just make out Peter's white Cressida and my old brown Mazda 323 (a great little car, that) parked next to it. You can be sure it was mine, because (as you may recall) I always like(d) to reverse in. And old habits (especially good ones) die hard!

Well done, Tony. I knew I could count on you!

I've still got a snap of the famous "Norwich Clones" about here somewhere (but not scanned in, unfortunately ... I've just had a look). So you'll have to make do with this one (taken at the same time as the others). That's 24 years ago now, Mate.

By the way, did I mention that I called in at Norwich a couple of years ago? It was great seeing those guys again. You will remember Colin Barber, of course. Not sure if you ever met Dave Laurence. All good mates (back in those days, at least) of your mate Kim.

More "absent friends" with a Norwich connection:- Dave Gifford (my nemesis). What has become of them all? smile

I remember Dave Gifford, Irving Clark and George ( titters ) Titterington from the Shannings Team at the Royal.

I believe Poor old Irvings in the " Great Biomed Shed in the Sky " last I heard of George he was in Jeddah at M.O.H.

I never saw Dave Gifford anymore after he " left " Oman !!

I believe Kim is working for Caroline in one of her other companies
(not ebme )

Happy Days indeed mate.

You mentioned the name Titterington Tony. Was his name by any chance George? Ex Army medical biomed I believe, who I had the great pleasure of working with for a number of years at Riyadh KKUH in the 80's. Wonder where he is now?

George Titterington. Ex-REME Electromed (or "Med & Dent", if you prefer). Last heard of (as far as I recall) at Yanbu, I believe. Would have been mid-90's. Perhaps Neil can confirm?

He came from the Isle of Man, you know! I should imagine that George must be retired by this time. But how can anyone be sure that he doesn't get on here ... under a noms de guerre? smile

Don't remenber meeting him in Yanbu, did have the dubious pleasure of meeting him in Jeddah in the late 80's though.

George speaks very highly of you, as well, Neil.

How about George's contemporary ... Bob Wilcockson (also ex-REME Electromed). Can Bob still be in Riyadh?

Note to Tony: Bob worked with your mate Bill Crombie (and my mate John Pearce) at the infamous King Fahd Medical City. smile

I believe that John spent more time in Riyadh than he did in Perth. And about his marital CV ... I think all I can say is "pass". smile

But otherwise, it was the same bloke you must have known along with Gordon Miller, "John" Davies, Peter Bowers et al during commissioning at the Royal. And, of course, Terry, Bill and the "Hairy Matchstick". Not sure if you had already left when Tony Strong joined the "A-team"!

Whilst I'm at it, I guess I should give an honourable mention to John McGinty!

I believe John Mc Ginty is at the Great Western in Swindon, also Peter Barratt, ex IAL EBME Manager at King Hussein in Jordan.
The Hairy Matchstick recently left the Royal whereabouts unknown.
I wonder where the " Gargoyle" is now, also " Little Gem " ha ha.

Good for him! That means he should now have plenty of time to get on here.

You know, to join in the reminiscing! There's no excuses, now. smile

Has anyone heard from Eddie Hughes recently?

I came across some of his Mariner stuff last night, and realised how long ago all that now is! frown

After loafing on Bournemouth Nuffield Beach since 23 March 2007 [as above] Tony Grimmett is catching the TUPE train for the Outsource Boat docking at Nuffield Hospitals EBME. The Nuffield Crew of 5 looking after the 14 Nuffield Hospitals will be emigrating to TBSLand on the 1st Feb 2012. Any advice from absent friends on surviving or drowning in the choppy crossings of TUPE gratefully received.

Eddie is still at the National Guard in Jeddah, busy with his musical career apart from the biomed stuff.

Well you've got two choices there, by the sound of it, Tony (my Old Mate):-

1) Join TBS
2) Retire!

Depends whether you need to keep earning regular money, I guess.

There is always a third option, of course:- put some money into the pot and join (set up) the B-Team. Together, we can conquer the world (if we feel like it). whistle

A bloke like you shouldn't drown, Mate. Seize it as an opportunity to sail on to new, uncharted waters.

BTW ... I'm wondering if the (Famous?) Five put together their own Proposal. And if not, why not? think

Welcome on board, Matey ... and bring your messmates with you if they fancy a run ashore ... on the Dark Side of the island. Who knows, we may even come across hidden treasure!
