What key indicators are in use by others as required under Criteria 28?

How many of you are benchmarking against other areas?

Criteria 28 is from "Medical Devices Management" Oct 2003 issue my MHRA.

Quote:

Key indicators capable of showing improvements in medical devices
management and/or providing early warning of risk are used at all levels of the
organisation, including the Board, and the efficacy and usefulness of the
indicators is reviewed regularly.

Benchmarking is mentioned in Criteria 29

Quote:

The organisation participates in benchmarking its management of medical
devices in accordance with National Audit Office recommendations.

I do not think this is relevant. Never used it and no intention of using it.

Are you talking about the now obsolete Controls Assurance Standard.

Although it isn't really obsolete as it is still a requirment of Core Standard 7 (think I quoted the right one) of the new Standards for Better Health (SfBH).

Some years ago CASU requested a list of key indicators from each Trust with a view to recommemnding a national set of key indicators, to my knowledge CASU (of HCSU as they are now known) have never released this.

I suspect when the Healthcare Commission eventually start snooping we will all need evidence of having Key Indicators etc.

Hope this helps Joe.

Summer 2004, but compliance is still required under the SfBH. The only difference is that we no longer have to report on controls assurance to DH. I think it was misleading when I used the word obsolete.

It was a bit of a con, the Government made a big press statement that they were cutting red tape by doing away with the CAS's and introducing the SfBH which were streamlined and simpler. What they didn't tell the press was that CAS were to be an intergral part of the new SfBH. If that's not spin what is?

At some time in the future the Healthcare Commission will inspect Trusts for compliance with SfBH and with it compliance to CAS (I assume).

I haven't heard anyone here talking about controls assurance for 18 months. I get the feeling it has been archived.
