Do you feel restricted by the present grading system...? Are you on MTO or the EO grading or non at all. One problem in the south of England in particular is that the NHS will label someone as, for example, an MTO 3, however because of the area it would be more realistic to pay him an MTO 4 grade. This results in recruitment and staff retention problems. I know that some areas pay a set salary rather a grade. Another problem is watching a good technician stuck at the top of one grade and unable to transfer to the next. Does anyone have any comments about this......

This was thrashed around a couple of weeks ago somewhere else on the Forum - but I can't remember where ! Probably one of those strings which "wandered" off the topic ! ;\)
There are lots of problems with the grades ;-
1) they start at a ridiculously low level (who would want to start someone on MTO1 unless they were just an EBME Porter ?)
2) They are too short and there isn't enough discretion to allow you to reward good people.
3) There aren't enough usable grades (ignoring MTO1 & 2 as being an insult to offer anyone)
4) An MTO6 (or even a 7) would be nice !

Dream On !

I totally agree, but surely MTO1 - 5 would be fine if they were about 5K more on each level (and 10K on an MTO5 to allow for the stresses of management) ;\)

He keeps me locked in a cage, throwing me the occasional bone and shouting 'keep programming' all week.

Stressing John Sandham is my raison d'etre...
