Tony (And anyone else)
The change to AfC pay scale is optional for all staff on Trust contracts, if you are better off on your old MTO pay-scale stay there.
If you face a pay freeze under AfC but are not on the top of your MTO pay scale take the MTO yearly rises.
Some Trusts seem not to be too open with this option and are guiding people towards AfC and hence saving themselves money on the pay bill.
If you are on an old NHS contract ask to be transfered over to a Trust one so you can keep your options open.

I've queried this and looking at the latest handbook (Jan 05) the wording suggests that even peoples on trust contracts linked to Whitley pay scales have no choice which is exactly the line our trust is taking! See 46.1 below:-

Part 7: Transitional Arrangements Section 46: Assimilation & Protection
SECTION 46
ASSIMILATION AND PROTECTION
Assimilation to New Pay Structure
46.1 Staff on national contracts and other contracts which incorporate, or
permit employers to incorporate, national agreements on pay and
conditions of service will assimilate to the new pay system on the
effective date determined below.
46.2 Staff on local contracts not incorporating national agreements on pay
and conditions of service will be offered the opportunity to assimilate to
the new pay system with the same effective date, subject to them
giving their employer reasonable notice of their decision. If these staff
do not exercise this right within the initial notice period, they may:
- do so later and the effective date of assimilation will be the start
of the next pay period after they have notified the employer of
their decision;
or
- defer their decision on moving to the new pay system until the
outcome of the review of unsocial hours payments is known and
providing they have given their employer reasonable notice their
effective date of assimilation will be the effective date of the new
arrangements.
46.3 Staff on local contracts may move on to the new pay system after this
when their effective date will be the start of the next pay period after
they have notified the employer of their decision.
46.4 Where organisations have normally adopted Senior Manager Pay
contracts, these should be regarded as “national agreements” for the
purposes of this provision.
46.5 Newly appointed or promoted staff should be appointed or promoted on
the new terms. However if, during the implementation phase,
employees are recruited after 1 October 2004 on pre-Agenda for
Change terms and conditions pending assimilation of their posts to the
new pay system, then the protection arrangements set out in this
agreement will apply.
Effective Dates and Operational Dates
46.6 The operational date for national roll out will be 1 December 2004, with
an effective date for any changes in pay and conditions of 1 October

The Team Leaders within our department have just been given an AFC offer. It being a band 7, I'm guessing they will all accept. This will hopefully be beneficial in our review request. Now there is a huge "hole" in our dept payscales, the difference in roles equating to almost £1000 a month at the top of the scales! They went thru a JAQ and although they didn't quite match the points required for a "Section Manager" profile, they were given a band 7 anway.

MTO3s(2 of) were banded a 6 here as I ensured that the job description highlighted the fact that we were specialist technicians working in anaesthesia delivery and patient ventilation systems. Also emphasised in the knowledge and training factor that we were graduate equivalent with specialist training through short courses, + 5 years experience.
No decision been made about the R&R premia yet but as lead Amicus rep on site I will be negotiating with the SMT here very soon.

hello fellow nhs workers :-)

I'm currently an MTO3 working with most forms of medical equipment within the hospital. I havent heard much about the re-grading within my department of medical engineering.
After reading some of these stories, I'm worrying I will end up with sleepless nights! lol

Ive heard the Renal Techies have been offered MTO3 = Band 6, and MTO4 also = Band 6!!

As soon as I've got any news, I'll press some of these buttons again and leave some text!

Good luck to everyone waiting!!
