What should have been a very open and clear route to registration,has in all honesty been shrouded in mystery and hearsay.
Even today we're no wiser as to whats happening. But one Fact I have found out is that Being on the VRCT register in no way means you will be guaranteed acceptance onto the HPC register.

Does anyone else have any facts to share or fiction to put right.

Fact 2: By not joining the VRCT for the last 6 years I have saved £60.00!

No I don't. Worked in Medical Physics for fifteen years and don't know a thing about it. Don't know who is pushing for it or why. Information seems impossible to come by. Give me some info and I'll think about joining up but until then it's a no way from me.

Fact 3: A great deal of Trust based vacancies for Clinical Technologists state that either being a member of The VRCT or having the criteria to join The VRCT is desirable.

Fact 4: It's voluntary.

Why is everyone so negative about someting that could be very positive for a profession that some have stayed in for many years of problems (mpt:mto, a4c, ksf etc etc)those that have done so must like the job they are in so why not have any views on a positive nature. Such as state regestering the profession will mean only state registered staff can carry out certain levels of work. Hence making the job harder to employ people into staight of the street and possibly making senior specialist level engineers and above more secure in the current climate?
If staff have to be state registered then they will have top be whoever emplys them, hence suppliers etc will only be able to use state registered staff. More security?
Having to be registered may increase our training budgets as we will all have to continually maintain knowledgee levels?
Come on guys get with it and try to think positive otherwise we may as well give up and put all EBME or whatever we call ourselves out to contract on a national basis today.

Is anyone out there knowledgable about the Society of Critical Care Technologists Voluntary Register under the Voluntary Registration Council?
The majority of EBME technicians i think would be eligible to join this society if they have input into critical areas (ICU,NICU, Theatres,Renal etc.)

All other recognised professions in the NHS are registered. Why should we be any different? I agree with KM that it can only be a good thing, provided the process is clearly set up.
