Anyone trained with them?

If so what is it like?

Hi There,
I did a 2 week training course for Biomed's with no previous experience of Medical devices back in 2000.The content and level was excellent as a new starter but that course would not be relevant for people with some Medical device experience.

They do some courses on-site, lot more convienent and cost effective.

They still run their original 1 and 2 week biomed courses and I believe have now introduced x7 week long courses based on the new occupational standards for biomeds, they also run a foundation degree (work based learning)course. The food is great.

"New occupational standards for biomeds"? What's that, then, Rob?

Seven week-long training courses? That's something new.

Has Falfield become the new capital of the world of biomed training, I wonder?

Dear Rob, I wrote to Sarah of Eastwood training inquiring about the requirements for Internationals students and i tell you the costs she sent me!!! its 12,000GBP per year and this is 4 times the cost nationals pay, this is really absurd for us international students, actually if there any companies or sponsors to this forum and any willing person please come to my my resucue , i need to read Biomedical engineering but i luck the funds.

I hear what you're saying, roman, but surely you are learning more and more everyday just by going the job? With your access to the web, why not doing your reading on line?

Meanwhile, the thought occurs that some of us should collaborate in putting together a web-based biomed theory package. This very site already is already the nucleus of much of what is required, surely? It just needs a bit of "pulling together". How about it Rob? Huw? (Vaughan?).

After all, to my mind Falfield has become (degenerated into?) more of a social venue these days, what with weddings, corporate jollies and all the rest disturbing the tranquility of what was a centre of learning.

Its absolutely true Geoff , that doing the job i learn alot, even online , i have been doing this for the last six years, but this has cut my career prospects alot, i have not takenup any project yet in biomed, i have been denied good jobs because i lurk the formal education , in my country when a job is there in biomed they will ask for minimum requirement a degree already am dropped even if i have the experience or hands on experience, unlike in England i saw people in engineering doing those short courses and they really benefit thm alot

Let me tell you, roman, that many contributors to this forum are not degree holders. I certainly don't have one. Surely to be a biomedical engineering technician is one of the best, most satisfying technical jobs you'll ever find, but to my (old-fashioned, perhaps) mind, it remains (and always should remain) a vocational profession.

What is needed is the right attitude (willingness to help, etc.) and aptitude (the hands-on techie mentality), and practical training. No need for degrees. Leave that to the doctors (who are two-a-penny - but how many biomeds do you see around?)
