This article has set me thinking (?) The problem seems to be that we can't type, click a mouse, or speak even, as fast as we think (well, most of us, anyway). Data entry and digital communication as we think? What we need is a way to de-code EEG waveforms in real-time, surely? Then we could all walk around with a scalp electrodes head-set on (perhaps we can disguise them as caps ... you know, fashion accessories). They would complement our Bluetooth earpieces quite nicely, too, eh? I reckon we're on to a winner, here. What a brain-wave!. Better get to work on it straight away, then (before Microsoft thinks of it)!

We are getting into the realms of Firefox here. I must think in Russian...

Wow! How did you know that I'm using Firefox, John? There's something weird going on here today!

"In five to 10 years, your average computer is going to make today's desktop look like a pocket calculator. It won't be 50% more powerful or 100% more powerful it will be 5-10,000% more powerful.... Is it of any great advantage to the average user to be able to open Word or PowerPoint a hundred times faster then they can today? I don't think so, ..." - Gordon Frazer - Microsoft UK MD. There you have it from the horse's mouth, Microsoft can't be bothered to make software work more efficently!

He also mentions that we're basically using the same kludge of a PC that was developed thirty years ago, Jon. Time for a clean sheet of paper, perhaps (metaphorically speaking, of course). I'm no great fan of the Microsoft ethos, Mate, but I like to give credit where it's due. The whole Windows thing will surely go down in history right alongside the invention of the steam engine, and all the rest. Microsoft software may not be to everyone's taste, but the fact remains that the whole world uses it! I would be very happy if only I had one-millionth of that customer base.

You're right there, Chris. When I'm working at my PC's I often keep an eye on many internet forums, and would be the first to agree that at least 50% of the posts I see are absolute rubbish (badly constructed, badly spelled), and 50% of people seem to ask questions that could be easily and quickly (not to mention more comprehensively) answered by even the vaguest of attempts in a search engine. It seems to me that most are in in too much of a tearing hurry to think for themselves. So yes, perhaps some sort of limiting device wouldn't be a bad idea. The internet and the world-wide-web are fantastic tools, but as is well known, the secret is being able to sort the wheat from the chaff. I would say that at least 90% of stuff available on the web is absolute sh... (er, chaff)! It should be mentioned here, of course, that the Good Moderator of this forum has seen fit to permit re-visiting posts (for editing) for up to an hour after posting (is that right, Huw?). But many other sites do not have this facility. Like emails, once you hit the button (perhaps in error, or haste), that's it, gone! About the brain-waves, perhaps we would all be better off if people did say what they actually thought. Something to think about there, then. Yes, I've heard the claim about men and sex. But all I can say about it is that I personally must be the exception that proves the rule (an odd saying that, better check it out in Google)!

We must be related to Goldfish! It is said they have a memory of 7 seconds. In that case, if we think about it every 7 seconds it would in theory be a new thought.
What do you think?

Like emails, once you hit the button (perhaps in error, or haste), that's it, gone! Yes Geoff - 120 minutes. I opened it up for discussion and the feedback I got was that 2 hours was sufficient for re-thinks. After that it's either a re-post or contact me. I have deleted a few posts at the request of the original poster.
