Interesting to see the results of the recent Amicus/Unite ballot on pay with 2/3's voting in favour of accepting the revised pay offer. Who were these people? Exit polls here point to 9/10 against!

Do you know how many replied? I missed the reply date due to holidays. My response would have been NO.

Just had a look, only 22% of ballot papers were returned. The yes vote was about 75% which means that only 16.5% voted in favour. I think that any vote made up of less than 50% returns cannot be taken seriously.

Truth of it is that it doesn't matter. Would the members go on strike? Doubtful. Will the Govt. change their mind? Absolutely not!

I suppose it reinforces the comments made on an earlier topic in this category titled Union. There is no real fight anymore but we still whinge as much.

I wonder if it's the same percentage who voted for AFC and perhaps Amicus is secretly populated by sadomasochist who just vote yes on anything no matter how badly it effects them.

When it comes to Voting issues, Apathy will always give the result the majority did not want.

Yes, guys whinge on! In the reality of today's "climate", the real man votes with his feet! It's the only valid means of protest left. And it also preserves his self respect. \:\)

Easily said Geoff, but unfortunately a lot of NHS employees have regular committments such as mortgage etc. and need/want the security that the NHS (appears) to offer. Plus the benefits such as the pension add up at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what the unions say or do these days, they have no power and the government will ride rough shod over all of them. Gordon Brown has stated that there will not be any pay rises of significance for a number of years to come ie. nothing above 1.5% per annum.

Everyone craves security, Kawa (I'm sure we've all heard of Dr. Maslow and his famous pyramid), but at the end of the day a man should be true to himself. I am always saddened when I encounter (as I sometimes do) blokes who are just droning on, counting the days before their pensions become due. If our modern existence has any value at all, it's where we have broken the chains from a life of drudgery. If you’re not happy, move on (as I myself have done many times).

Union power died with the Miners’ Strike. King Arthur was not universally supported, and it was the Last Hurrah of organized labour in this country. Anything that these new unions with "made-up names" do or do not do is of no consequence now. They may as well spare themselves the trouble!

It’s a new deal now, guys, have you not noticed? As I’ve said before, the ugly truth is that it’s an "every-one for themselves" Britain now. Solidarity? Forget it. Looking out for the other guy? That’s gone too. Look out for Number One? That’s more like it, Mateys!

Now get out of the ******* way, I need to get to the trough! \:\)
