I was at an exhibition on Mon&tues. Noticed a stand called Covidien with some familiar products.

Tyco Healthcare was the former healthcare division of Tyco International Ltd. On June 29, 2007 it became a wholly independent publicly traded company named Covidien Ltd. headquarters in Mansfield, Massachusetts, one of the largest healthcare devices and supplies companies worldwide.

Thinking of buying it then, John? Ha, ha.

But what about that name, eh? Another "made up" one by the look of it.

 Quote:
"The name (Covidien) reflects our corporate goal to build and strengthen our role as an integral healthcare partner, supporting the lifesaving work of medical professionals."

Covidien is an original name, inspired by themes of collaboration and life, the company said in a release.

Baboon Speak? I'll let each of you decide.

Meanwhile, I rest my case. \:\)

"Covidien is an original name, inspired by themes of collaboration and life, the company said in a release."

This quote seems to refer to their former Chief Executive:
· He did/didn't cooperate with the police.
· He received a long stretch (life?) for his acquisitiveness.
· He's been released already??

Of course this is the company that used to say, “We are Tyco and we are here to Take Your Company Over. Any suggestions for Covidien?

I am surprised it took so long for there to be a thread on this issue. I was speaking with a TYCO service rep. back in February and he said they were changing names back then.

Hopefully with the new name will come a new, more customer focused and understanding company as their name implies.

Some wise old Dude or other once mumbled:- "Even Truth needs to be clad in new garments if it is to appeal to a new age".

On the other hand, anyone remember the one about spots and leopards? \:\)

Rebranding of many of these corporations is partly guided by the desire to avoid a name that means anything nasty in a language zone you wish to trade in. Reminds me of Chris Tarrant's favourite Japanese deodorant, "Bum".

Good point, Marc. It's obvious that Fukuda Denshi must have had it in mind, too! \:\)

Is that why “BEAVER” MEDICAL changed their name when they began to sell Gynecological products ??
