Now here's a thing.

Wondered how many of you, let's say, 'EBME manager types' out there have ever been asked to 'consider an opportunity' to manage a Sterile services/Decontamination function across a Trust (fairly large one at that) along with their normal job of doing likewise for the Ebme/Med eng/Clin eng type service ?

It seems that locally, we have seen a couple of these 'opportunities' crop up and I wondered if any of you people out there had been offered similar 'opportunities' or is this just localised.
Is this the start of a new breed for Ebme, i ask?
Will it change the face of Ebme as we know it, I doubt it?

I suppose it could be linked to the older idea of 'technical services manager' or 'specialist services manager' where job roles were more merged, albeit at probably a time when complexity and regulation in general was far less.

I'd be intersted in any thoughts or opinions, or if any of you know of similar moves/positions.

In some of my previous lives I had the privilege of taking care of not just CSSD, but all of the clinical labs and imaging as well. That's what I call real biomed, not just the ECG recorders, infusion pumps, NIBP and pulse oximeters as it seems is the norm in the UK. ;\)

At one place, I once had "the opportunity" to take on the laundry as well, and would have done if only I had had a few more handy blokes on the team! \:\)

Outside of the UK, I've had the same experiences Geoff.

Regular Biomed, Path Labs, Dental, Renal, X-Ray, CSSD.... but Laundry?

Well, I'll leave that to those who wish to empire build, I have no interest there ;\)

Can't see it happening. ebme is ebme - cssd (for example) is a different kettle of fish.

...and Steve, I really think that with such a large amount of extra work - the compensation should be considered very seriously. BioMeds are famous for going the extra mile without the extra remuneration \:\(

... all it takes is more techs ... I doubt that "they" expect one bloke to do it all!

And, anyway, what's wrong with laundry kit? You can really clean up in there!

You can make a meal of kitchen equipment, too. Kit is kit, and (as I say) all it takes is more people. Today the UK, tomorrow the world! \:\)
