In some of my previous lives I had the privilege of taking care of not just CSSD, but all of the clinical labs and imaging as well. That's what I call real biomed, not just the ECG recorders, infusion pumps, NIBP and pulse oximeters as it seems is the norm in the UK. 
At one place, I once had "the opportunity" to take on the laundry as well, and would have done if only I had had a few more handy blokes on the team!

Outside of the UK, I've had the same experiences Geoff.
Regular Biomed, Path Labs, Dental, Renal, X-Ray, CSSD.... but Laundry?
Well, I'll leave that to those who wish to empire build, I have no interest there

... all it takes is more techs ... I doubt that "they" expect one bloke to do it all!
And, anyway, what's wrong with laundry kit? You can really clean up in there!
You can make a meal of kitchen equipment, too. Kit is kit, and (as I say) all it takes is more people. Today the UK, tomorrow the world!
