So at the moment our data base can only show that were working to such a time a day... which in all honesty is a low number...

But that’s it. A number... when we look deeper into it... sure we put it took 2 hours to fix etc etc item.

But if I walk into the hosptial,9/10 times I will be stopped with some one asking a question do to with work, then we can go into how many calls we get and solve jobs over the phone.

If you add those type of things then our working time will be allot more.

It’s been suggested we use a system where if we start a job, we use this program like a stopwatch. Begin Job A: Press start... timer counts...if we stop the job we stop it...

But then... its pointless because it wouldnt work because when you go into a ward or theatre...i bet my last pound you will get caught for more then one job or question..

So back onto the point. What do you do to record your work time if any? Thanks for any feedback, Much Appreciated

It's an interesting topic, Adam. But the first question (which needs to be clearly addressed) must be:-

"Why would you want to do that"? \:\)

I don't think it's a case of 'wanting' to Geoff \:\(

In that case, it probably needs to be resisted!

I seem to recall a previous thread about this sort of thing.

Good stuff like this, for instance. And this old one!

Meanwhile, perhaps Adam can give us some more clues about the motive here ... then perhaps the greybeards can advise! \:\)

First an admission I work with Adam, unfortunately people from Worcester speak strangely and being a young man he has trouble forming simple sentences (I blame the education system and the reliance on "Word").

We have recently changed Directorates and have a whole new set of leaps and bonds to achieve. One of these is that we are required to prove that we are working efficiently.
Currently we book time down to individual jobs on an unsuitable database style program called “Shire”, this has no means to cover the tasks all of us do many on a daily basis such as chasing other peoples jobs, answering the phone, training, instructing, writing test procedures, reading standards, playing on the EBME site etc.

Does anybody else have similar problems and if you do how do you overcome them?

Lee

Can we assume that you meant bounds there, Lee (... blame it on Word)? ;\)

Yes, Mate ... this is an old chestnut. Am I right in guessing that you have a bunch of keen new management that don't know their a**** from their elbows? Ignore them, and after a while they will go away (until the next fresh faced gang turn up, that is)!

(my advice is to keep asking that very pertinent question:- why?) \:\)

So, if you feel that you really must comply with such nonsense, surely the answer is clear:- use a database system that includes all that stuff!

For instance, one of the industry standard CMMS includes:-

"Labour Productivity:- analyzes work order and non-work order activities providing efficiencies and productivity data for employees. Reports include employee productive and non-productive time, work accountability and efficiency, estimated versus actual hours and PM workload forecasts."

How's that? \:\)

I feel that the powers at be should leave us to do our job \:\)
I will continue to try stop this from even taking place as I feel our time is well spent and any more of this nonsense we will be spending more time on the computer then actually working.

I was just trying to gather ammo for any thing they would try turn it against me. So im glad others also find this nonsense \:\)

Thanks for the reply’s

Well where I work its not really logged but the "Managers" do keep an eye on output! As a rule off thumb I generally like to charge 70% of the work day to work aka job sheets inputted. This then give a propotion of the day to such jobs which really dont require need less paper work, ordering or workshop duties.
But this is what I like to do as a Tech, there are other people who sit on the gravy train and dont tend to do a lot!!
