Just wondering how many other women there are out there in technical/engineering roles in the medical equipment world? In our trust there's now only myself in a technical role and also a nurse responsible for training. The only other women are in more admin roles.

However in Medical Physics (Diagnostic and Oncology) I'm pretty sure the women outnumber the men.

I've worked in IT and broadcast engineering in the past which are also male dominated areas, but don't think they were quite as male dominated as this!

As I'm an old-fashioned "gentleman", I'm sure you'll permit me to make the observation (made over many years), that, in general, women make caring nurses, whilst men are more suited to technical tasks (I'm hoping that was put delicately enough). I think it used to be known as "human nature".

I'm also old-fashioned in the sense that I much prefer equipment managers to be able to spell the word equipment! \:\)

Well in the shire we had two girls (early 20's) come to do work experience at the EBME Department as they were studying medical engineering...

And my college course this year has hmm 7 girls out of 20 so the numbers are growing. And that was in Elect Engineering to state.

II wonder if the percentage of men in nursing is higher than the percentage of women in medical engineering?

It could also be known as stereotyping as well..

My Medical Equipment Manager is female, and is better by far than any male manager we have had - and that's been agreed by all the engineers we have - guess what they are all male!

Well, I am one of the lady who has just successfully joined EBME team!!! And my company/workshop is full of female techs so basically there are females working in EBME field but as usual the men is still outnumbered women, mainly due to EBME is an engineering field! ;\)
