Over 75% of all Acute Hospital Trusts in the UK now use Hilditch Medical Ltd to sell their surplus equipment.

Hilditch Auctions first identified the market for redundant healthcare equipment 18 years ago. At that time most equipment was thrown away, regardless of condition. This represented a terrible loss, not just in revenue to the hospitals, but in equipment that was badly needed in developing countries around the world.
Now, Hilditch Medical’s auctions attract buyers from all over the world, who either attend in person or email bids. At the last sale, 15 countries were represented!
However, although Director, Mike Hilditch, is delighted with progress, he is still determined to persuade the remaining hospitals that dump to reconsider their current policy. “Often liability is sited as the reason for disposing of redundant equipment, however, sold in the right way, this should not be an issue – even the Department of Health now advocates sale as being an essential part of any hospital waste management scheme, and the WEEE legislation makes it clear that it is a duty of consumers to consider re-use prior to recycling as a disposal option”.
