80 lead ECG vestThis ECG system with an 80-lead vest is designed to give healthcare professionals a more complete electrocardiographic view of the heart.

In clinical studies the 80 lead ECG system has shown superior sensitivity and comparable specificity in detecting acute MI compared to traditional 12-lead ECGs. The device's design includes a rapid-application 2-part vest containing 80 leads, and a touchscreen monitor that displays the Heartscape 360° Exam.

80-lead technology demonstrates greater sensitivity and comparable specificity compared to 12-lead systems. The 80-lead 3D electrocardiogram (ECG) system was released at the European Society of Cardiology congress in Paris 2012 by Verathon. It aims to improve early diagnosis and help detect acute myocardial infarction (MI) that may be missed by traditional ECG systems.

Technology
The Heartscape technology employs a diagnostic algorithm to process the greater spatial sampling of cardiac electrical activity from 80 leads, enabling doctors to detect more posterior and high anterior Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMIs) than 12-lead ECGs. The 360° Exam displays ECG results on a touchscreen monitor using a rotating 3D color graphic.

This ECG system includes -

  • 58 anterior, 12 lateral, and 10 posterior lead data;
  • Assists doctors in identifying the presence of cardiac ST Elevation (STEMI), ST Depression, NSTEMI, and other heart abnormalities;
  • Helps detect more posterior and high anterior Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMIs) than traditional 12-lead ECGs;
  • Has demonstrated superior sensitivity and comparable specificity in detecting MIs compared to 12-lead systems;

80 lead ecg two part vestThe 80-lead two part vest allows the 360° ECG imaging technology to provide a more complete ECG interpretation of the heart. This 360° ECG examination is designed to assist clinical judgment by suggesting a diagnosis and revealing the basis of that decision for the cardiologist's evaluation. The 2-Part Vest System is designed to speed up the ECG test - especially critical for high-risk cardiac patients. With all 80 leads built into the anterior, posterior and lateral sides of the vest, this system can be quickly applied to patients. The system, with 80-lead vest, is the first 360° ECG technology providing a more complete ECG interpretation of the heart.

Clinical applications
The 80-lead ECG test assists doctors in identifying the presence of cardiac ST Elevation (STEMI), ST Depression, NSTEMI, and other heart abnormalities. Helps detect more posterior and high anterior Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMIs) than traditional 12-lead ECGs.

Emergency doctors and Interventional Cardiologists told the manufacturer that more definitive ECG information could help them identify high-risk cardiac patients more quickly, when seconds count. A 360° view of the electrical activity of the heart is designed to help healthcare providers assess the patients' status faster and accelerate their treatment. The manufacturer believes that better clinical outcomes and lower healthcare costs can be achieved with the more accurate diagnosis from this system.

The system also can display each lead individually. The rationale for the 80-lead technology is that the standard 12-lead ECG has major blind spots that this device overcomes, especially in areas such as Emergency Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology.

i.e. For those patients presenting with cardiovascular symptoms (acute chest pain, abnormal rhythm, etc.), the Heartscape system, with 80-lead vest, is the first 360° ECG technology providing a more complete diagnostic picture which may accelerate triage for the following conditions:

  • Anterior MIs and ischemia outside of the 12-lead view
  • Posterior MIs and ischemia outside of the 12-lead view
  • Inferior or more lateral MIs outside of the 12-lead view
  • MIs and ischemia in the presence of LBBBs
  • Earlier repolarisation or hypertrophy, LVH

The Heartscape 360° exam (colour-graphic diagnostic algorithm) helps:

  • Identify the presence of cardiac ST Elevation (STEMI), ST Depression, NSTEMI, and other heart abnormalities
  • Detect more posterior and high anterior Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMIs) than traditional 12-lead ECGs
  • Improve early diagnosis of AMI in the presence of LBBB
  • Pinpoint patients with inferior wall AMI and right ventricular or posterior wall infarction
