A new approach to vital signs measurement is needed in order to address higher acuity patients on the general ward.* Current solutions can complicate workflows, restrict patient mobility, rely on alarms resulting in over-alarming, or lead to gaps in monitoring.
The Philips Biosensor BX100 was developed to address these limitations. Medical-grade, battery-operated and wireless, it adheres discreetly to the chest. It allows patients to move freely about the ward while it measures heart rate, respiratory rate, posture and activity in between spot checks. With information from the biosensor, IntelliVue Guardian Software aids clinicians in identifying subtle signs of patient deterioration hours before a potential adverse event and assists in driving early intervention.
The Biosensor BX100 provides data for two key early indicators:
- Respiratory rate
- Heart rate
It also provides contextual information:
- Activity level
Routers support up to 16 biosensors
As patients move about the ward, data from the biosensors is wirelessly transmitted via a Multi-patient bridge, which consists of ceiling-mounted routers that can accommodate connection with up to 16 biosensors per router. The Multi-patient bridge features a 30 m (100 ft) line-of-sight connectivity.
Lightweight and comfortable
At just 96 mm long and 61 mm wide, and weighing only 10 g, the Philips Biosensor BX100 is unobtrusive and comfortable. ** There are no wires or finger clips, and the biosensor can even be worn in the shower.
