My Name is Dave Blackwell, 33 years old from South East London. I am currently training for the shot put with a goal to become the first deaf person to compete on Olympic level.
I had success with Powerlifting, winning the British unequipped bench press title in 2008 with a lift of 145kg at 82.5kg body weight.
I also went into Athletics and took up the shot put, competing internationally with Deaf UK ATHLETICS (DUKA) at the:-
3rd European Indoor Athletic Championships (for the deaf) in Italy.
The 1st World Athletics Championships for the deaf – Turkey
I made the choice to give up Powerlifting in order to focus entirely on Shot put training, and I have improved a great deal since. I am to compete in the Bench press as this doesn’t have much of an effect on my current training seeing as it is part of strength training.
I aim to qualify this year for the British Unequipped Bench press which will be easy enough, and aim to win the title again next year.
I will also be taking part in the European outdoor Athletic championships for the deaf which is being held in Turkey 2011 with the goal to win, and take a record.
2012 I aim to compete in the Olympics.
I am currently seeking sponsorship to help with training costs, travelling costs and nutrition costs.
I am a member of Dartford Harriers Athletics Club where I train 2-3 days a week, and have a garage converted Gym where I train 2-3 days a week strength training.
If you require any further information I would be happy to supply.
