I have been approached about servicing patients home based machines privatly. Has anyone looked into this before and would the insurance be too expencive. Do you know an insurance company that could give me an estimate.
Thanks

Vince,
Are you employed by a trust and are you doing the work for your employer. If so why do you need private insurance.

smile Welcome to a real minefield (if you let it!)
We are looking into this area again, having once been advised : 'you just carry on with the income generation - we'll insure you'.
However, some of our Non NHS clients have asked to see our insurance policies - hence the need to review.
As to Insurance companies - Try AON, or better still - if you are IIE members - they can advise on liability insurance matters.
Good Luck smile

Sorry I didn't make myself clear.
The patients have bought their own machines and are not connected with the trust that I work for.
I would be working from home at weekends and evenings to begin with and maybe becoming self employed.
I'm just trying to find out if it is feasible.
I'm sure the insurance is expensive and depending on the number of patients it may not be worth the trouble.

I would have thought that you would need Public Liability Insurance as a minimum. Also, are you suitably accredited/trained on the equipment in question? Should anything go wrong, you could be in a very difficult position if you're not.

You should also notify your Trust that you may be doing this work. There may be some issues surrounding that.

Yes I have been trained by the companies for this equipment. As far as the Trust knowing I would have to tell them concerning working time regulations 48 hour week monitoring. As I have said I am not doing this at present but would like to find out the problems that it could bring before hand.
