Short of housing a volumetric pump in a locked perspex case has anyone compared competitors' models for their resistance to tampering recently? (eg. just yanking the door open whilst infusing and ripping the set out!)

Id have thought if you want to go that far to tamper heres no stopping you.
Why not just cut the feed line.
If you can see where Im coming from, if people want to tamper so much, you will never stop them.

Speaking of which, have you been fortunate to come across the new Graseby Omnifuse 4100? confused
I know they have designed these pumps to be more tamper proof and user friendly. mad
I have disscovered however, on evaluation that the plunger sensor looks very appealing to stray fingers when the lockable cover is open.
It seems that Graseby have moved away from the old fashioned mechanical, user operated Syringe Plunger clamp, and opted for an automated one.
Everytime some interferes with it the pump shuts down and shows up an error message.
Admittedly it is reset fairly simply, but this leads to all sorts of questions being raised, of which I will not go into. eek

The Omnifuse looks like an unfinished product to me. Some good ideas but not very well implemented - rushed into production perhaps and a bit "rough around the edges" (particularly the user interface/menus) when compared to their main competitors products.

Graseby waited too long before they started to develop and introduce a new syringe-driver product into the market, I think. Hopefully the Omnifuse pumps will not be as poor mechanically as the 3XXX series appear to be. It could be worse - at least the 3XXX electronics are very reliable......

I'm not so sure about 3XXX rely-ability ?
I have seen a few PCB's with corrosion damage. I'm not sure if this were due to the internal batteries leakage, or fluid ingress ( A poor seal on the outer casing).
The membrane switches seem to cause afew problems as well, be it edge connectors or the actual membrane itself.
Admittedly, Graseby are the Syringe pump majority here. And I cannot say too much about others, as have not had the oppourtunity to fiddle (opps smile , REPAIR- i mean)

The 3xxx series do seem to have more parts which can become permanently disconnected from the main body of the syringe driver, when compared to the Alaris Asena.

However, the internals do seem to be quite robust in comparison.

The things I really dislike is the idea of putting 'shims' in to make parts fit correctly (as with the syringe size detector), the way that the syringe size detectors seem to stick when the equipment is reassembled, and the need to 'fiddle' with the plunger detector to get the declamp alarm to function correctly.

I know that the asena can be a pain in the proverbial, but I'd prefer them over the 3xxx series.

I have had limited experience with the Omnifuse, but believe Richard is basically correct in his belief that the Omnifuse feels like an underdeveloped syringe driver. We had a rep drop in with one for evaluation last year (or the year before?) and we gave him a comprehensive list of what we didn't like about it.

We have actually had some in for trial on the wards to counter the influx of Alaris pumps, but the jury is still out!
