Shins, I have no difficulty understanding Tom Jones or Charlotte Church (when she`s sober) so the boyos are fine by me. You`re the original Brits anyway.

Thank God I’m only English, and not British!

Well I got 90%. Brilliant. I am British. All I need now is an I.D card and I will know who I am. The one I failed was emergency numbers. I got 999 right, but have never herd about 112. What service do I get with 112? A.M

Surely, on today of all days, the “Britishness Test” must include:- are you wearing a poppy? I regret to report that here in North West London, very few were in evidence whilst I was walking in this morning. But some of us will never forget the sacrifice made by millions of our (ie, British, Empire, Commonwealth and Allies) men and women. This is not a trivial matter, in my opinion.

Aston,
The 112 is the international number for our "british" 999.
The "answer" is of course 42

112 is the continental version of 999 it has been implemented so that any foreign visitors can call for help in an emergency.
999 was considered easy to dial on the old dial phones in the dark. You just had to find the fingerstop then beyond that was 0 which you placed your middle finger in then your index or dialing finger naturally fell in the 9. 999 was considere to take too long to dial by the US so they went for 911. On the continent they went further.
Simple - if you remember the old dial phones with one pulse every tenth of a second, which meant 999 took three seconds to dial. This seemed like an eternity in an emergency Robert
My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Thank you for extra information on emergency numbers. Yes, I am wearing a poppy. I wonder if poppy will ever change over to more fashionable coloured wristband. A.M

Aston I do hope we never exchange the poppy for an anonomous wristband. The poppy is distintictive and everyone understands what it stands for - or should! Papa Doc
