Personally, I make no distinction between people posting on this forum. If people (of whatever gender ... and all the other categories that I couldn't care less about) can't take a bit of gentle banter, then it's a sad day indeed for this forum.
Hear Hear Geoff - howabout people just try and be civil eh! Doesnt cost nowt - doesnt apply to any gender and gains far more respect all round I believe! However there's a difference between gentle banter and the deliberate comment made to offend, deride or undermine another person for effect, or fanning of ego by the poster. It's called trolling in some circles and is all too common on forums - it means that a forum earns a bad reputation and loses its credibility as a place for professionals to share expertise and best practice!
On another note - ta for the suggestions guys - yeah health and safety is a real pain agreed, but I for one am prepared at least to make an effort to meet the requirements halfway!

Quite right Geoff - however there is scope to develop a policy based on the guidance available and wouldn't take to much time to quickly wizz through the HSE leaflet.
As a passing thought: 'where equipment is used for lifting people it is marked accordingly, and it should be safe for such a purpose, eg all necessary precautions have been taken to eliminate or reduce any risk;'

Yes absolutely it isnt as simple as it sounds - safe working practice embraces a whole sequence of risk assessment - loading appropriately , using safely - safe work flow in terms of collections throughout the Trust, infection control & decontamination procedures and so on - it's been a real unfolding and most valuable lesson to all, and has tightened up procedures considerably where they needed to be! Never underestimate what seems to be a simplistic perception - my team are still muttering at the knock on effect!
