Hi all,

I've just bought myself one of those small netbook laptops which is running LINUX as its OS. It's quite slick and boots up in 10 secs or so.

Question - should I install antivirus software on it? If so, any suggestions?

It will be connected to my home Wifi network which also has 2 PC's, running Microsoft OS's.

Cheers
Mark

If we are to assume that the network at Newstead Manor is also connected to the wacky wonderful worldwide web thing (in general, the source of all things both good and evil), then I should imagine that it would be prudent to try to protect it all in some way or other!

As for recommendations, I'd better leave that to the Penguins in our midst.

Cheers (as well). smile

PS: does your new toy also run SEMS?

Hi Mark,
To be honest I have never used an anti-virus whilst using Linux, and so far I've never run into any problems.

However I wouldn't be so flippant as to just say 'No - you don't need to.' Instead, take a look at this article. wink

Oh yes, F2 ... the one concocted by the gurus of the South West! How many man-hours of meetings did that take, I wonder? I sincerely hope that it is all you ever wished for, and more! Hope that the rest of the gang are all fully on board too, of course.

No excuses now, then! Better crack on with that PM, Mate. Tax-payers money has been invested, after all. So now we want to see the results. Feel free to report back as often as you like! smile

Right now, I'm using Ubuntu. I prefer it to any of the others I've tried and the support forums are nowhere near as elitist.

I also like the 'LAMP stack in a box' setup. Currently I'm using Gnome but I think I'll go back to KDE.

You?
