What is your definition for most liveable city?

Some of the most common criteria are: safety (protection against events that causes health and economical losses), hygiene (practices for good health and cleanliness, efficient public transportation, political and social stability, etc.

My definition would have to be:-

"The one with the least amount of people"!

But,the good news is that, according to the Wikipedia:-

"... there is debate now whether the age of technology and instantaneous communication with the use of the Internet are making cities obsolete"!

People are starting to live in their own little microcosims. From what I understand the most liveable city must be online, somewhere within the realms of World of Warcraft

Back on Planet Earth, I should imagine that Eyl is quite interesting!

But of course, if I were a cynic (?), I would comment that, for those of us lucky enough to reside in the UK, it doesn't really matter where you are, or which town you're in, as they all pretty much have the same "look and feel" about them.

The most desirable place to live is a house that suits your needs and is not too expensive. It's near the pub and local amenities (paper shop and Post Office) and is not too far away for the main shops, cinema, theatre etc. and is within easy commuting distance of work.
Apart from that the additional benefit of a decent sized garden with the right amount of privacy that you desire and good friendly neighbours.

Couldn't agree more Geoff. Commercialism has sucked the character out of most of our towns/cities. The centre piece of most cities is usually a shopping mall, and after all a shopping mall is a shopping mall

Of the places i've been:
In the UK - Chester
Italy - Gioa del colle
France - Orange

Sardinia - Cagliari (sh**hole)

As Kawasaki indicates, it all depends what's important to you, the individual. Scanning my own memory banks, of the places I've hung my hat (and they have been a fair number), I would have to say that (for me) Al-Baha, in the mountainous part of Saudi Arabia, is the place I would most like to return to and live at. Of course, there's zero chance of that happening now, unfortunately. By this time they've probably even got internet access, I should imagine. Thinking about it, Muscat would run a close second.

I also have a high regard for anywhere in Deutschland, but as far as the the UK is concerned, (as I say) it doesn't seem to matter too much. But Durham, Chester, Lincoln, Gloucester, York, Harrogate etc. are all "nice".

The worst I have known? Well apart from Armagh in Northern Ireland during the so-called "troubles", I suppose (if I'm to be honest) I am bound to say Lagos. Followed closely by Edmonton in North London!

I've never been to Singapore, Roger. But if it's anything like the Hong Kong that I knew in the mid-1970's, I doubt that I would enjoy being there for more than a couple of weeks!
