The reason that the MS16/24 should not be used is due to a lack of safeguards. You can teach the nurses how to use it until the cows come home, but you cannot legislate for someone unfamiliar with them mixing the two pumps up and administering the wrong dose. Or, worse still and it happened at the hospital where I used to work, where a patient's relative tampered with the pump and administered a fatal dose (allegedly).
I don't want to appear indelicate (?) ... but some people would have us believe that that's its most endearing feature. That is, the infamous suicide button!
We are currently looking at replacing all our MS16As, but have included them in our discussions, just to have seen to be fair to all products. To be honest, as we are looking to replace about 100, we would be pretty stupid if we did buy them as they do not conform to cuurent standards.
I find it somewhat intriguing that (slated as they so often are for not conforming to "current standards", and all the rest) the MS's are still available for purchase at all!
Are they still made in Watford, or has manufacture been "farmed out" overseas, I wonder?
