Anybody know which processor is used on the G.E. Marquette Case 8000 Stress Testing ECG System? We have a noisy (failing) cooling fan, and I wondering which one to order from RS.

…not much joy there, then (but don’t worry, I’m working on it)! Meanwhile, does anybody recall the correct level for the hydraulic oil in the old Eschmann MR tables (ie, how to check for the correct level of oil during PM)? Also, are we bound to use the oil provided by Eschamann at Eschmann prices (part No. 699408), or can anyone recommend a reliable substitute?

Geoff, if you were living here in Riyadh you could pop down to the computer Souk and visually choose the fan you wanted. Cheers - Nick

...tell me about it! The same goes for many other places in the world, too, no doubt. But what about the operating table oil? Is power-steering stuff or ATF any good?

There should be enough oil in the resevoir to pump the jack up to the end stop and very little more, beware, the rotational lock pin end is not a dipstick, this can lead to overfilling and messy OR floors. All you need to do is ensure the table raises to its fullest extent, as for the oil, Ive seen hydraulic oil from Halfords used with no problems.

Thanks for that Darren, but there’s no way to confirm that the level is correct, then? Do we have to remove all existing oil (sucking it out? or is there a drain plug?), and then squeeze in a known amount? Or just forget it as long as the table pumps up? It all sounds a bit random to me!

The CPU cooling fan is sorted. Still not sure, but it could be either a Socket 8 (Pentium Pro) or Socket A (462) (Athlon/Duron). Was not able to have a decent poke around due to difficulty in getting access to the unit. It seems that there is an “industry standard” that these fans have 50 mm spacing between the mounting (self-tapping) screws. So in the end, we went for RS 389-3451 at £ 10.46 including tax. This one included a nice heat-sink. Was tempted by just a fan from Maplin at £ 7, but noticed that it had only the two 12 VDC wires. The RS one had three wires, like the original (for RPM sensing, I believe). When I finally got in to have a go at the unit, it was a bit infuriating to find it running quietly enough. I thought that perhaps the fan had packed up altogether; but no, there it was happily purring away. Having gone to all that trouble, I swapped in the new RS fan (leaving the original heat-sink in place), but to be honest, it wasn’t any quieter!

I’ve seen intermittent noise in the past, when the bearing are failing. If you didn’t replace it this week, you would have been replacing an overheated processor within the next month so.
