We experience a recurrent problem with our PCA
pumps - during operation the pump would beep
for about 1 second without any warning message.
Normal operation isnt interrupted, and this
would sometimes recur within the same session.
It happens to many devices, many times.
Alaris service gave a vague opinion that this
is normal behavior between demands but other
pumps of this model show no such behavior.
Has anyone encountered this ? found a cure ?
Thanks

The bad news is we have 15 of these PCAs and have never come across this problem

Hello David,

Are you not confusing the "pump working on battery" bleep, it sounds very similiar to your problem?

The devices are constantly plugged in to AC.
But you did give me an idea - could it
"autonomously" switch between operation on
AC and Battery ? I've tried to simulate this
by quickly disconnecting/reconnecting the AC
plug on the pump side but I then get the
"AC Fail" alarm loud and clear and not a
fleeting beep.
Problem is the departments keep sending the
devices to me as "broken - beeps" and all I
can do is verify the claims, send it to Alaris
and get it back same as it went.
Thanks
David

David, I don't know if this will help?
I seem to remember that these pumps will beep like this when run on battery and if the 'chirp low alarms' is configured on in the general options.
To try and determine if this is a factor, hold the start button whilst switching on then enter the code 251 and go to option 2 'general options'.
'Chirp Low Alarms' is number 7 in the general options, if yes is selected as an option, as Tracy mentioned, this could be what you're experiencing

I have this same problem with one of our P5000 PCAM pump. We were recommend to change the ribbon cable between PSU board and the main Processor board. If did not work try fitting a new PSU board. This cured my problem.

Be aware there has been a MHRA Medical Device Alert MDA/2005/068 issued on the 08.12.2005. This is to do with the battery run time and alerts on all “P” series pumps.

Great idea. Why don't we just put all the service codes on the website for nurses to learn.

Would a private message not have been a better idea?

Must be working from a different one from me then because the latest P5000 DFU just states "for technician access codes please refer to the technical service manual"
It shows them the procedure but doesn't give the code

From what I've been told I think that they've been made aware of the amount of information in the P series user guides being perhaps a little too useful.
You're right though, maybe we spend so much time having to watch out for big brother that we sometimes forget about little sister.......
