Does anyone use these on adults?
If so what make / model?
How good are they?
How long have you used them?
etc, etc,etc.

Yes we use one in our ICU. Its called the Sensormedics 3100B Oscillatory Ventilator and was supplied by Viasys Healthcare. We have had it for almost a year now and for adults it is the only HFOV available. Its been reliable and is fairley easy to set up. Not sure how sucsessful it has been on patients but we did return all our Inovents etc to Inotherapeutics so it is obvious that the clinicians think the HFOV can acheive the same or better results as N.O.

Hi Guys, I have observed this vent ( Bird 3100B ) in operation at a Military Hospital Burns Unit in Brussels, Belgium. It is very impressive, especially for patients suffering from Smoke Inhalation. The High Frequency Oscillatory action really clears the Lungs quite rapidly.
X Rays showing 1/3 Lung capacity at 10 am returned to Full Function at 3pm ie 5 hours.
I spoke to the patient in the early afternoon as by this time he was being weaned off and partially controlling the vent himself. It was really good to see.

Haha, We've just carried out an acceptance test on one of these devices, to be used in our SCBU/NICU. Have to say they look quite scary and a bit old fashioned. Perhaps they were not orignially vents, but MK1 darlecks that were rejected!!

Yeah, they sure do look like rejected darlecks.... with an in-built homeboy stereo system... I would love to wire the "bass speaker" into my car stereo teehee.

Ive seen these used in a couple of hospitals. In the SCBU we use it with nitric as well and I think the results are good, why would the consultants use them if they didnt do the trick??

Someone told me they are reluctant to update the design, as it would mean going through the US FDA approval process all over again. Perhaps that’s why it still looks like a prototype. Not that that takes anything away from its efficacy, of course (in fact, to my mind, it rather adds to its appeal)! smile

With the set on it it looks like a good contender for a darleck insemination device!! eek

I guess as longs as its effective then who cares what it looks like. Although if a member of my family were attached to it, and I didnt know what it was, I would find it quite scary. The new Viasys Avea vents, look quite good, in their purple outfits.
